JERICHO, N.Y., December 13, 2004 WorldSport HD, the 24/7 hi-definition sports channel featuring sporting events from around the world, has acquired the exclusive hi-definition US broadcast rights to Euroleague Basketball, one of the world's most electrifying and popular international professional sports leagues. Beginning in January 2005, WorldSport HD will present a LIVE "Euroleague Game of the Week" throughout the remainder of the regular season and extensive post-season broadcasts highlighted by complete coverage of the Final Four in Moscow taking place May 6-8, 2005. The action will tip-off January 6, 2005 with top ranked Montepaschi Siena vs the 2004 World Champion Maccabi Tel Aviv. WorldSport HD is available exclusively on the VOOM hi-definition satellite service.
With the NBA established as a global phenomenon, and international basketball more competitive than ever before as evidenced by the recent Summer Olympics, interest stateside in the Euroleague is at an all-time high. Moreover, the League has become a training ground for the NBA as several current players first made their impact on the Eurleague stage, including Pau Gasol (Spain), Manu Ginobili (Argentina), Hidayet Turkoglu (Turkey), Radoslav Nestervoic (Slovenia) and Ibrahim Kurluay (Turkey).
