The steps outlined in the FAQ for how to program the VOOM remote to control a TV do not work for me, and I wonder if there is more than version of the VOOM remotes. The steps clearly refer to a VCR option, but my remote does not have a VCR button, only a TV and SAT button as far as devices to be controlled. It came with the VOOM Motorola DSR 550 STB as delivered by a VOOM installer (a month before they went out of business!). I have 3 such boxes, and the remote for one of them controls...

Voom Auto Power off error

I've used my Voom for 2 years to get about 8 local HD channels. Everything worked great (except for some erractic reception on some channels) for 2 years until about a month ago. When scrolling down to my last channel 11.1 CBS the Voom suddendly powered off. This problem has continued since then. I cannot access channel 11.1 or the Voom will power off. WELCOME to our Motorola DSR-550 (VOOM Box) Support Forum!

VOOM no longer exists as an independent Digital Satellite Broadcaster. Motorola DSR-550 ("VOOM boxes") can no longer be used as Digital Satellite Receivers, however they still work as OTA receivers.

Have a question about VOOM Box? Need help? Please post in this forum. SatelliteGuys staff and other forum members will gladly offer their assistance. Newbie questions are certainly welcome!

No Menus on Voom Box

I just bought a VOOM Box on ebay and received the unit.
It starts up OK with the VOOM splash screen which says "wait ...".
Then the screen goes black and no menus can be seen.
The stb is connected via DVI to a mitsubishi 720P HDTV projector.
The antenna is the same one used to receive High Def for my Media Center PC. I have no problem with receiving HDTV OTA with the Media Center PC.

The satellite icon on the display is red and the rest of the display is blank. I have the access card...

Improving OTA reception

I just moved and recently set up my Voom box and Winegard antennae. No matter where I put it, I can't get perfect reception on all the channels I want.
I've got it in the best possible location, but I still struggle to receive NBC. When tuning in setup mode, the strength jumps back and forth between 94 and 55.

I tried putting this in the line

I JUST Bought an activated voom and have no idea how to work it. I have cox cable and no antenna and want to know what I need to get it to work. Do I need a satelite and an antenna or neither one of the other?

I have a Motorola Voom 550 that correctly provides HD format off air video material to my Sony monitor. It doesn't seem to work for channel 11-1 but works for some 20 other HD channels. In fact, whenever I try to go to Channel 11, the voom box locks up and has to be restarted. When it searched the channels to create the channel table, it did find channel 11.

I would like to occasonally watch chanel 11 in HD. Help???

Voom Box shuts off when surf to Channel 5?

Hi all,

I have a few Voom boxes and they all will shut off and restart if I click to local Channel 5. Although I can scan and store Channel 5 but can't view it just for that reason. Everytime when the box shuts off, it goes trhu the start up process and will be back on at channel 100 (as it had been powered off). Has anyone have this problem and have a cure? Thx.

I appreciate all the help I received in the past from this forum, and now I'm returning the favor so to speak.

I have a Voom box that I was using for OTA, but I lost the remote. Its not worth getting a new remote, so this box is a candidate for target practice. However, I hate to destroy something that might be useful to someone, so if someone wants it they can have it. This is great for those who ended up with a doorstop but still have the remote.

I thought I remember reading that the chip was a motorola 505 (I'm not sure what the differences are between that and a 505a) I know obviously you'd need the dish and you'd also need the cards and you would paying for the programming....
