Bought my first BUD system about 4-5 months before HBO started scrambling (the glory days). I think that was about '85
Had a 12' black mesh dish with a 120° LNA (real state of the art) Wish I could remember the name of the manufacturer. It was something that had to do with the woods, like Evergreen etc. I thought it might be Conifer but the only pictures I have seen of those have been button hooks and this one wasn't.
The receiver was a Chaparal Sierra II. I got so much signal of the system I had to attenuate the signal as it was over driving the receiver and the red color had sparkles.
My favorite thing to do was watch news feeds in the evening of an Alaska feed off a bird way over in the west.
Those were the days of Boresight and I watched them religiously, plus other analog feeds that were in the clear that were selling satellite stuff.
