I don't think it was relevant to the fee being waived. It was, however, relevant to the technician visit. My understanding is that if you don't have the protection plan, any technician visit is automatically a much higher charge (I think it's $95).

I had the fee waived, so all I really had to do was add the protection plan, have my DVR fee upped from $12 to $15 (which is standard), and pay the $10 for the on-site visit by the technician. I'm sure some of it may have to do with account status like KAB was saying, but that was it in my case.
