    Latest 522 Issues??

Don't you think it odd that many of the malcontents continue to monitor the Dish 522 and other Dish threads merely to come back and tell you how happy they are with TIVO and how they continue to hate Dish? Do you actually find relevant the complaints from obsessive compulsive posters in this...

    2.03: what's in it??

"Is there any place someone can look and see what the different versions are suppose to add or fix? That would make a lot of sense and probably cut down on a bunch of calls to tech." An excellent idea, but I doubt it will ever happen. Looks like Dish frequently updates 27 different...

522 Remote Wont Program To Tv

I also found that it is much better to go to the Dish site and get your remote codes as the site has a more inclusive list than that provided in the product manual. I found two of mine at the Dish site which weren't in the book...

    522 Hard Drive problems

My 522 has performed diagnoses 4 times that I have witnessed since I have had it. Probably more instances which I have not witnessed. Never lost anything, and average time has been 15-20 minutes. Of course, I always keep my 522 lean and mean by actually deleting programs I no longer have...

Reasons why you should NOT get a 522.

Rubbish!! You youngsters keep talking "beta tester" nonsense. You all know a beta test is solely for a computer product prior to commercial release. It is conducted after alpha test. The Dish 522 has been beta tested and released for commercial use. End of story. Moreover all beta...

Reasons why you should NOT get a 522.

"Bugs" Deja Vue...this is where I came in (LOL)! I've worked in computing for 36 years starting as a Section supervisor in 1968 of NAVALSEASYSTEMS Command's COBOL standardization project in Crystal City. We worked with Admiral Hopper's Harvard contractor crew when she was recalled from...

Reasons why you should NOT get a 522.

Maximum said: "no wonder the author is so disgusted with Dish's DVR receivers -- He's a Mac user" Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, this explains it all. I totally agree with Bizzach, But I am not as nice as he. Contrary to ChrisCoop's assertion, it clear to me his two screeds...

The more I see the "Tivo is better than" comments...

I fully agree shippy. I love the way the 522 functions. Whatever the advanced features of TIVO, (and it is superior)IMHO Tivo's future now rests with its ability to find someone other than Murdoch to buy them out. How many more years can Tivo sustain losses? Stockholders are getting...

    New Dish Customer-Info Needed Please

"At first you'll be disappointed in the inability of the PVR to do name based recording. You'll get programs you weren't expecting because the PVR only records time/channel." True...but the owner of Satelliteguys site says Dish will provide Name based recording" on 522's in software upgrade...

DISH Network Adds Six New Chinese Channels to International Programming Line-up; Sate

Guess I got the channel wrong. It is 580. I also didn't see German. I guess you have to subscribe via phone or Internet, and not thru remote, and this is reason I get no 580? http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/international/a_la_carte/index.shtml

DISH Network Adds Six New Chinese Channels to International Programming Line-up; Sate

This is a great addition to Dish programming silversurfer. Does anyone know about channel 585 and the European International channels mentioned in "programming" at the Dish site? Is there a target date for offering these European channels? Dish site says something about channel 585 but this...

Trying to watch live TV while recording

Yes, once recorded on TV1 or TV2, you can watch both from either TV. And yes, as long as the unit has power, the 522 will record any program you set on the timer if you turn the receiver off from the remote, i.e. neither the yellow TV1 or blue TV2 light is on.

So what do you think of Sirius?

Yeah, sound quality is so superior to the other audio channels. Surely, even without the other Sirius channels Dish will eventually charge. Looks to me some Sirius programming is in over 3 hour blocks. I recorded different selections and they auto recorded for 3 hours 13 minutes or so. I'll...

    L165 is Here!

Thanks bcshields...the fact that these are not the real Sirius satellite stations gives me reason to hope. Don't know why I didn't notice these cd channels before. Knew Sirius and XM advertised as "CD quality" and saw the cd labeling. Sirius charges $12.95 for their sports and music...

    L165 is Here!

I don't know if I got Sirius, but I noticed I now have some 32 cd music channels. CD 1 is 950 and it goes to CD 32 at 981. I'm in the San Francisco area. Nice not to have commercials, but if this is what satellite radio sounds like in your car, its not for me. Not that impressed running it...

    522 Lockups

WOW! Aren't you dumping shows you want to save to your VCR, or burning them to DVDs onto your computer, or just plain doing the normal housekeeping required to properly use the 552 by deleting shows after watching them? You may want to connect your VCR between the 522 and your TV so you can...

Timers move from DVR1 to DVR2

ChrisCoop is correct, this is where one sets the basic tuner record default. This is not a software glitch, but a much needed auto record enhancement. Most people enable the record preference tuner for timers to default to the tuner they use the least so as to give them more freedom for auto...

    522 Keeps locking up!

Yes, I have had this happen frequently. In my case, I noted it often happened when I asked "on-demand recording" to record and save a program from the start after I have watched it a while. I fast backwards to beginning, press play and then record to get all the program, and then in some...

    With the 522, Can I?

You are quite right. I also found that TV2 has to be connected or it will not shut off properly...blue TV2 light remained on. Has anyone found a way to edit already created automatic event timers and change the receiver destination? Using the record button does afford an opportunity to send...

Need Help Hooking 522 through Receiver, VCR, etc.

Also been there, done that a million times. So many buttons to switch, jacks to plug and pull. I always get fixated on getting the receiver input/output right and forget about the VCR or DVD. And increased options only make configuration more difficult to trouble shoot. My new JVC DVD...

Need Help Hooking 522 through Receiver, VCR, etc.

Mark's suggested configurations are top notch as usual. You might also want to consider that some VCR's will not see a signal into composite RCA jacks unless you select the proper input mode. Many VCR's default to seeing Coax input, so coax connection is almost always recognized...

using the 522 for one Tv

I have SBC/Dish and my understanding of their contract for the 522 was 1. Additional Outlet Programming Access Fee ($4.99/mo. applies for second tuner in each dual tuner receiver. Waived if phone line is continuously connected. PLUS 2. DISH Video-On-Demand Service Fee ($4.98/mo...

how does a 501 record video??

I also use TMPGenc also for important stuff, and having to take all the time to re author also saves me from burning junk to DVD or CDR. If I really want something questionable I'll dump it onto the VCR. I have not found any video card/software combo as flexible as ATI in allowing you to...

    Dish Pvr522 Glitches

Don't know if this thread is dead, but... The method I use to archive 522 recorded shows to DVD is to plug TV2 into my ATI AIW video card to record shows to MPEG2, and then burn them to DVD or CDR as MPEG2 data files. Luckily, I have a junk Apex standalone backup DVD player which will...

    Newbie question on 522

I am glad to hear this Simon. And perhaps I should not have stated twice that my customer service contacts were from India since they did not identify themselves as such...not that they would. I used the customer service number from my SBC site. I do consider that I can very accurately...
