Debating whether to upgrade from 2 HR22's to the Genie. I realize there's a $3 month charge for whole home DVR but besides having more hard drive space to record shows, the ability to watch them in any room, and PIP on the main TV, are there any other benefits, like faster channel changing or faster TV Apps? And these still do not scan for locals, right, you still only get what the AM21's database allows?

if its an hr44, it will be faster
hr34, might not be real noticeable, same speed as hr 24

I think you should be able to whole home your hr22's

It is SO SLOW. The HR24 was significantly faster than my HR34. Review the forums for my (and others) experience with it. I know that some people have no issues, but many do. Two of the three people I referred to Directv have left because of it. The other plans to if cable ever reaches their home. If another provider gets Sunday Ticket, I will probably either demand a HR44 or switch.

My HR24 is faster than my HR34, so what? The HR34 is faster than any of the other HR2x series boxes.

This is a contradiction...

I don't see where there's a contradiction. He said that his HR24 is faster than his HR34, and that the HR34 is faster than an HR20, HR21, or HR22. My HR34 was extremely slow and buggy, but after deleting and rebuilding all of my timers, I'd say it's similar to my three HR-24's without a noticeable speed difference. Maybe if you used a stopwatch, you'd see a speed difference, but not everyday use.

How can the HR24 be faster than HR34 and the HR34 be faster than the HR2x boxes?

I fully agree that the HR24 is faster than the HR34. My friend has an HR21 and it absolutely blows the HR34 out of the water. I see it with my own eyes weekly. Another friend was visiting me this weekend who has Directv (actually referred me) and commented at nearly every channel change that my receiver is a "piece of ...."

As I said, you did not read my post.
And the HR21 is much slower than the HR34, in fact it's one of the slowest DVRs. Even my old HR20 is faster than the HR21.

So let's compare the HR24 then to the HR44...differences in speed? I thought I read somewhere that the Genies had some added 'copywrite protection' built in too, which of course is not desirable but not sure if anyone can confirm if that's true or not.

If the HR2x HR DVRs can be set up as whole home DVR, I guess the only advantage of the Genie is smaller set top boxes on all but the main TV?

genie has 5 tuners, so fewer conflicts then an hr2x

exactly. But if you record lots of shows from cable channels the conflicts may not be as bad as they rerun the shows a lot (usually at say 8PM and then again at 11PM for the west coast folks)

If you are replacing two hr24s with a genie and a client, then you will essentially have the same tuner capacity when both are working at the same time. Its 6 one way half a dozen the other....

No sound on Genie after power outage.

SAP on locals.
