622 smartcard

so i got my (purchased) 622 today, hooked everything up and it's taking the software download now. but i noticed no smartcard came with it, shouldn't it have had one? just want to be sure before i call dish.

thanks ice, i was a little confused because it seems to have an external slot as well. so i called up dish and gave the CSR the receiver number, long pause after that, "sir how did you get this receiver?" told him i purchased it, "i didn't know you could purchase these, hold on i have to talk to someone". long wait then he finally came back and activated it.

who knows.. I called back twice after ordering my 622 to ask if I was going to get a D1000 and DPP44. Both times they assured me that techs would have all the appropriate equipment.


Tech showed up with NO D1000 and NO DPP44.

He had to get his manager to come out with D1000, and will have to return with DPP44

My 622 (which is to be installed 03-01-06) does not have a smart card. The owners manual says the slot is for a FUTURE smart card.

The newer receivers do not require smart cards. But I guess Dish put the slot on them just incase they found out that they really did need them at a later date.

Ex) If someone hacked the "built in" chip that is used instead.
