I have a 942 DVR and suddenly last night the screen turned colors, everything has a brownish tint to it. I switched to the DVD player and color is fine, so I suspect something wrong with the DVR. Any ideas how to fix it or should I report to E*.

Loss of color

The first thing I would try is to replace the component cables or dvi cable if you are using that type of interface.

Before you replace the cables. I would try unplugging them and plugging them back in. Sometimes things work themselves loose.

Or try using a different output on ur 942. I wouldn't think that somethings wrong with both the Hd outputs. Hopefully not. If somethings wrong with one of them and not the other at least that will get you buy till someone can come out and replace the receiver. Good luck!!!

A brownish tint usually means the blue cable is loose or broken. Similarly A blue-greenish tint means the red cable and purplish tint means the green tint.

Don't ask what happens if they are exchanged!

For S-video, a black and white picture means the I (intensity) signal is OK but the Q (chroma) signal is loose or has a bent/pushed-back pin or a break.

BTW, has anyone ever used an old Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) cable, which has the same connector, for S-video? Possibly a bad pin-out or much attenuation.
