A couple of questions about spot beams!! I'm 400 miles from the Bengals...

I know this is a question that has been beat into submission many times before (or at least I would assume so), but what are the odds I could receive the locals for Cincinatti? I know I would have to "move" in order to do so -- and I already receive my local Atlanta networks through All American Direct.

I'm about 390 - 400 miles from Cincy as it is now, and I'm curious as to whether or not I could put up another dish of some sort (that would work with my DISH network account) that would allow me to receive those signals? They don't have to be HD and they don't even have to be perfect (they can be somewhat snowy). I'm just a pretty big Bengals follower (I loved them when they were winning 2 games a year) and would like some way of following them.

Also, does anybody have maps that show the actual coverage areas for each spot beam? For example, does it show that the Cincinatti spot beams comes south into Kentucky somewhat?

Cade

well....depends on location. You have to be in the spotbeam footprint

Easiest thing is to check TP23 on 110 and see what signal you get. (menu 6-1-1 change satellite to 110 and transponder to 23)
2nd thing is to make sure you are not in the footprint of another spotbeam of TP23
check here
http://ekb.dbstalk.com/E10spots/e10t23.pdf the light blue means the spotbeam should cover that area

or another way is to tell us where you are now and we can let you know :)

According to the map linked by iceberg, pretty much all of Kentucky and Tennessee are in the spotbeam. Your only hope is if you're pretty much due *south* of Cincy (more or less).

Iceberg / Hall:

Thanks!! I enjoy reading both of your posts and appreciate the help! I'm in Dahlonega, Georgia (zip code 30533). It's about 70 - 75 miles northeast of Atlanta.

There was some talk that I could purchase a larger dish to make this happen, but I'd prefer to leave me setup the same. Sadly, it's a rather simple setup and you both would likely laugh if you saw it (one dish and one receiver in the house). :)

From looking at the map, I'm in it by the most thin of margins. In north georgia, I'm in the light blue shade. If you really magnify that map, it's the county that looks like a chicken. (I know that's a bad representation, but it's got a county that looks like a Boston terrier next to it). If you go to the far east side of the state (in the north and count three counties to the left, I'm the county just south of them).

So the odds might not be so bad... But it might be pretty snowy!! Hmmm....

no such thing as snowy with digital....its either there or not

Best thing to do is punch up menu 6-1-1 on the reciever and change it to TP23 on 110 and see what it shows. Those footprints are not always 100% right :)

You might be able to get it. I'm in Roswell (ATL area) and I'm getting a steady 37-39 signal strength (green and locked). You being further north it should be bettter. Give it a shot to see what you get.

And you get locals from Cincinatti?

Thanks! When I enter the menu with 6-1-1, I change satellite 119 to 110 and transponder 15 to 23 and I'm staying locked between 49 - 51.

ok so you're on the border of getting it. It will be there but any clouds/rain would definitelly knock it out.

An option is to get a bigger dish for 110 only. It can be hooked into your existing setup in most cases. What dish setup do you have right now?
Dish500?
Dish1000?
etc

I'm Dish500! If I get a bigger DISH (like a 90 cm), will it also receive the programming from DISH Network? Also, if I do subscribe to Cincinatti -- will I have to manually change the satellite and transponder before each Bengals game?

Cade

do you know if its a DIshPro LNB or Legacy?

Menu 6-1-1 and go to check switch. It should say there like Dish500 Twin or something.

yes a 90cm would work (even a 76 would work). I know on my FTA system I can lock on 119 TP5 which is a spotbeam for Chicago area here in Minneapolis (its really low like a 35 but it locks)

No you would not have to manually change anything. Once you "move" through Dish you will have CIncy locals and not whatever locals you have now (you'd still have Atlanta through AAD)
