I'm in Alaska and attempting to upgrade from a Dish 4000 receiver to a 625 DVR. Sat Guy in Anch said I needed a Dish dual NLB and that the easiest way for me to get the proper signal to my 625 was to put a splitter in the cable right behind the 625 to feed both sat inputs. I have a two cable run from the LNB--one cable going to Living Room TV, one going to bedroom TV. I bought what I needed from him.

Installed everything and got good Sat 119 signal, but only a small portion of normal channels. Called DishNetwork and tech lady talked me through stuff and said I needed a "Separator" not a splitter into the 625, and that I was supposed to be getting Sat 110 also.

Called Sat Guy in Anch and they said I needed a "splitter" in Alaska--not a "separator." When the guy found out that the LNB I bought from them had two cable outlets, he said he thought it should only have one!

I'm confused and we don't have a Dish tech in Kodiak to look it over.
Any help appreciated...

Dual tuner receivers such as the 625 come with a thing called a "separator". This looks the same as a splitter with 2 short RG6 cables attached. But it most definitely is not a simple splitter, because it's taking a bandstacked signal from upstream and diverting one block of signals to one tuner, and the other block to the 2nd tuner.

This presupposes you have DishPro Plus equipment upstream (either DPP twin or DPP44 switch). DishPro Plus gear allows you to feed dual-tuner receivers with a single cable. Given the vintage of your other receiver, you might not have any DishPro Plus gear whatsoever. If so, don't worry. The 625 is backwards compatible with DishPro and even what is now called "legacy" switches and LNBs. If that is all you have upstream, then you will need to run two cables from your LNBs/switches to the two tuners on the 625.

So, what do you have for a dish, LNB, and (if any) switches? And which satellites did you receive on your 4000? If you only get one satellite, then a splitter might indeed work to feed a DishPro LNB signal directly to 2 tuners. If it's a single satellite and a legacy LNB, then you will have to run two cables to your 625.

Did more research. I see one Alaskan stating you need a 1m dish to get 119, and (another?) 1.8m dish to get 110. If so, and assuming you get only 119, I am guessing that your Anchorage tech sold you a DishPro dual LNB. If so, then a splitter on the 625 will work to feed the bandstacked signal from 119 to both tuners. If that is what you tried, but you don't get all the channels you got before using your 4000, then make sure you do a "check switch" to clear out whatever settings the 625 had from the factory.

But if your 2nd LNB cable is now also going to your 4000, you are going to need a DishPro Adapter. The latter will accept the bandstacked signal from the DishPro LNB, but feed only the lower band and a single polarization, to the 4000.

ugh....lets make this simple.

I'm almost 100% sure the OP has 119 only and Legacy equipment. You cant get 119 & 110 on a single dish there. You need two dishes. SInce he has never mentioned a 2nd dish, he's 119 only

DishProPlus wont work as its only the DPPTwin

DishPro would work but if that box in his bedroom is an old box, then he needs a DP adapter and a DP34 switch which will cost more.

Easiest thing to do is to get a DirecTV 3x4 multiswitch. Since you are using a single satellite the multiswitch WILL work

run both lines from the LNB into the multiswitch. On the outputs, 2 go to the 625 and one to the bedroom receiver

LNB output 1-----------13v on multiswitch-------------bedroom receiver
LNB output 2-----------18v on multiswitch-------------625 input 1
----------------------------------------------------------------625 input 2

That is what I do right now with 119. I have 2 free to air boxes for the free channels (nasa, angel one and use to be the audio) and the 3rd output goes to my 811 that I am using for OTA

OK, you have me curious. I looked up your photos. What do you use on your 6 footer to get both 110 and 119 on one dish and where did you get it?

I dunno, 2 lnb's and the old sw64 switch?
I push power ... watch tv.

Well ok, now I push select and dvr and watch tv.

It was setup by Lou's in North Pole sometime winter 01-02.

:hatsoff:
Nice setup. I doubt anyone down here on the Kenai has seen or done it. I'll have to look around at the dealers. It would eliminate one dish for us with 6 footers still in use.

61.5 out??
