Any issued with "moving" 30 miles?

I just switched to D* today from comcrap and stupid me didnt research and I didnt realize I am missing 2 local HD channels. However, my friend live 30 miles north and his zipcode gets locals from a different city that does have the local HD channels. Would simple calling them and telling them I decided to install the system at my "other" address and I "moved" resolve this issue then? There wouldnt really be any problems I would think? But I am asking because I have never had D*.

What happens if you need a service call? Which address will they go to? Not trying to rain on your parade but if you get caught doing that the penalties can be rather steep. It is considered fraud to misrepresent where the service address actually is. I do sympathize with you however as I am in the same situation. I live at the westernmost edge of the Cincinnati market area but I would much rather have Louisville channels, merely for safety more than anything. Our severe weather comes from Louisville 90% of the time, and by the time Cincy has even begun to report it it's already hit us and gone. We had 80mph wind gusts last night and Cincy was still showing regular network programming.

Do you live within antenna range of this other city? Could you pull in the off-air digital channels with a amplified VHF/UHF antenna maybe?

I am too far to pull in locals from either city without using a huge rooftop antena and then I would not neable to record it which is huge for me. As for service calls I think I am OK /w anything besides a box going bad in which case they wouldnt need to come out anyways.

Above warnings aside, you can usually get other loacals if it is only 30 miles, the spot beam determines it in the end, but 30 miles is close.

I'd recommend waiting a little bit after the install to make sure you have no problems, once you move, you're on your own. Service calls would require a reverse-move, and multiple moves will lead to questions, and questions lead to cancellation of service
