Blocking Unwanted text Messages

In thelast month or so I have received a lot of spam by text message. Is there any way to cut down on this short of an actual block?

I don't think so, other then completely blocking them.

My wife's phone kept getting porn text messages, Verizon could not do anything about it, other then to eliminate all text messages. But they just stopped.

sure is annoying though. And it costs money too.

In all likelihood that is all I can do. Iguess I wasjust hoping that there is an alternative.
