Ok this is bad that I have to be asking this but I can't remember.

I set up my own BUD about 3 years ago.

Have been gone from my house for a few days on business and tonight when I tried to tune in something on the BUD I get nothing :(

So I go out in the dark with my handy flashlight to take a look at the BUD to see what was going on, (returned inside to set the BUD at T5, I am at 39N94W so T5 is my due south, right? and my elavation should be 40 degrees, right?)

Well the BUD is not sitting at 40 degrees when it is on T5, so I don't know if I have neighborhood kids (or people acting like kids) messing with my BUD, and on a quick search I could find my printed copy of the to setup a BUD, so I turn to you good people to help (as I continue to look :)

thanks for the help!

Hey st_moose,
If you're at 94w, your true south is not T5 (IA5), which is at 97w. It would be either T6 (IA6) at 93w or G3 at 95w. You don't have to know your true south satellite with a BUD. Just point that "polar mount" in a south to north direction (or vice versa). If you know where true north and south are, you're all set. Hope this helps.

Your right, I keep forgetting that T5 is at 97°.

The polar mount is ok, I marked to on the post when I set it up.

Doesn't the latitude have something to do with the angle at true south? or am I completely forgetting something.

thanks

Does the dish mover work ?

Does the polorotor make noises like it is working ?

Yse a volt meter , are you getting DC voltage to the LNB ?

Yes, the latitude does matter. The sats are all in orbit around the equator, so the farther north you are, the flatter the angle to see the sats. Sadoun has a nice calculator for determining dish angles/elevations/skew:

http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.htm

Also remember that skew is very important. If someone happened to rotate your feedhorn, then your skew settings could be out of whack. You might try tuning in ABC east on T6. It's on transponder 3 and is in the clear.

I couldn't find the link or I'd have posted this last night:

http://www.arrowe.com/index.html

Install the demo of the 'Satmaster+' software. It will give you the elevation / declination settings for your polar mount. You can infer these numbers from the regular online calculators but this software is the best I've seen for setting up a polar mount. Free is always good :).

As far as getting it tracking, we all love the Greo-Oribit site:
