Im finishing my basement and am trying to get the best use of my a/v equipment for multiple rooms when I had the idea of splitting my signal. can I come out of the back of my receiver with an s-video Y splitter then go to that tv with 1 s-video cable and through the wall and into another room with the 2nd s-video cable? the second room is going to be a weight room with a small wall mount tv that will only get used on rare occasions. I know that both sets will display the same channel, which is fine because I only will be using one at a time anyway...any thoughts? suggestions? thanks.

If you ran an s-video cable you still need to run audio cables. You say the tv is small, you probably would not even notice the difference and many small tvs don't even have an s-video input. Simple coax might be the best solution.

I meant small in comparison the tv that was going to be near the receiver. It will probably be a 20-27 inch lcd. I realize that I will still need audio. I just want to be sure that I can split the video signal like this and that it will still give a live feed to both sets. thanks.

Sorry, my bad!!!

I have split s-video outputs before and it worked just fine feeding both sets at once. BUT never tried on a Dish Network receiver. Hope that helps some.

Eddie.

I don't believe there is any s-video Y-splitter. Although there are Y-splits for RCA jacks you'll reduce signal if you split that way. Look at Radio Shack's web site they have distrubution amps and switches for something like that. The thing is it requires some type of powered box. Some of the Radio Shack units seem to convert composite to s-video. But it's always better that if you already have s-video you'd want the signal out to remain as s-video as well.

S-Video Splitter from cables to go
Yes, there is a S-video splitter and it worked just fine for me as long as the runs are not over 15 feet. This is not saying it won't work, just saying for me that it works best under 15 feet.

This is what I use now and it works great.

they pretty much have any type of a/v cable, connector, splitter that you may want, and great prices to I may add. They have the s-video splitters there as well. I dont think I should need anything powered since I'm only going like 10 feet with it.
