I currently have a single HD DVR and would like to add a SD DVR when I move. I am not on any kind of long-term agreement and don't think I should have to pay an arm and a leg to add a 2nd receiver. Is there a customer retention phone or some way to avoid the front line support ?

When I called today and talked with Dish, the 2 options are:

$119 up front, 18 month agreement, about +$6 per month for 2nd DVR (there's some crap going on with my 250 w/ locals plan, some fee going from $5 or $6 down to $2, etc.)

$399 up front, no 18 mo agreement, probably the same monthly adder

I don't mind the extra $6 per month, but I really don't want to get into the 18 month agreement or the $400 DVR. If I go down that road, I might as well switch to DirecTV.

If I do have to go down that road, why not just go for a HD DVR now instead of getting hit again in a couple of years when I buy another HD TV? Right now, I just want a 2nd DVR that I can distribute around the house to my four SD TV's over coax. We're always recording two things at once, so the single DVR isn't enough even though it can do 2 TV's.

Thanks,
Adam

So the grass is greener on the other side of the fence? Directv HR20/21 HD DVR is $299 lease upgrade the R15 SD DVR is $100 lease upgrade with 1 $100 instant rebate and a 2 year lease contract That is $298 in lease up grade fees and a 2 year contract. and you are complaining about an 18 Mo. commitment and a $119 fee.:):):)

"would like to add a SD DVR when I move"

So you're looking to add a single SD DVR? You will need to purchase the receiver if you don't want any commitment. You could buy a 508 or 501 receiver and will only pay $5.00. If you buy a 510 you will pay $5.00 + $5.98 for the DVR fee.

If you wait until January, the 612 will be released and it's a single HD DVR but most likely you will need a commitment if you want to lease it.

Dish DVR 921
