Dayton HD Locals with super dish??

Okay,

So I finally did it for real this time. Last night signed up for the 250+Locals+HD with the VIP-622. And the salesman, Nick, told me that I would be getting the Dayton locals in HD. I said you mean with an OTA antenna right, because I thought Dayton locals are not available yet through dish? No, locals with the dish he said. Hmmm. I made him go ask a supervisor and he said yes, he did not know the technical details, but since I am going to get 2 dishes, and one is the super dish, I will get the locals in HD with the super dish.

I have never heard of such a deal... anyone else know anything about getting local HD this way?

Thanks in advance!
Adam

you were given wrong info. Dayton HD locals are not uplinked yet. Dayton SD locals are and if I remember correctly, they do require either a Superdish or Dish1000 (Dayton is mirrored on 105 & 129)

You would only need one dish (Dish1000) to get the locals in SD and the HD programming but to get the locals in HD you will need an antenna

In Kettering you should be able to pick up all the Dayton HD channels using the metal core of a garbage bag twist-tie inserted in the RF OTA jack of the 622!

---legal disclaimer for those that may try this... DON'T actually do that!!!---
:D

Anyway, with a decent indoor antenna you should have no problem with receiving all the locals since the transmission antennas are in your back yard! The problem you may experience is the same as mine. Too much signal. Currently my rabbit ears are all the way collapsed and the directional UHF is "off-angle" to the towers to get a stable signal. With that little antenna in the basement 10 miles north of downtown Cincy (3-7 miles from the broadcast towers), I get all the local Cincy HD channels and 2, 7 and 45 from Dayton on clear days.

As Iceberg says, the HD channels are absolutely NOT available on the Dish Network satellites. The salespeople were dead wrong. You only need ONE dish. A Dish 1000.2 should do the trick.

See ya
Tony

I also run into the same problem with too much signal. I'm on the east side of Kettering and from time to time get drop outs due to multipath as well.

0010, do you have an antenna already ?? Indoor antennas are hit or miss, but can work. The best one to start with is the bow-tie UHF antenna (15-234) from Radio Shack that costs less than $5, I think. You'll have to buy a 75-300ohm transformer, cut off the spade terminals from the antenna, and solder or connect them together. 15-624 should also work very well. In general, don't buy any "cool looking" antenna, especially given your location and proximity to the towers. If you want Cincy locals (they surely can come in handy at times), look at RS's U75R antenna. It's an outdoor antenna, but is rather small, and $25.

I'm in Centerville and I have the much touted Zenith Silver Sensor. Its stuck inside a closet in the middle of the house and I get all the Dayton channels. Because its directional I don't get the cincy ones.

Is the Radio Shack one omni? Cause I would really like to pick up some cincy channels as well.
