Disconnecting Joeys from a Hopper

Is there any time limit that Joeys can be disconnected from a Hopper? If this is a limit, what happens after that?

From what I've heard for most of the receivers is that there is some sort of time limit on how long they can be disconnected before needing to be re-activated. Not sure if that's true, never tried it. Perhaps DIRT can drop by this thread.
