DISH Considers Mobile TV in 40 Markets

Interesting. Which 8 channels I wonder? I also wonder what kind of screen resolution that'll be. (Probably not HD. :()

It is interesting that their main complaint is that there are not any devices to receive the signals.... Seems like a job for Echostar...

What do you mean? Perhaps they will start making DTVPal DVR's again. Those came with Smart Cards in them and could be used for subscription over the air setups like this. :)

I love my Pal DVR. But didn't they sell it to Motorola, who later sold it off again?

Yup but I understand they were still made by Echostar but had the Channel Master name printed on it

I don't think even Channel Master carries them any longer. I have tried to search for one since mine died a couple of years ago and haven't found any for sale any where.

Those haven't been made in years and they're not as easy to use as they used to be since TVGOS died. You can find used Tivo's, both Series 3 and Series 4 w/lifetime from $250 - $400 now. I would do that before buying a used DTV PAL/CM7000.

Channel Master had a new model out last year, and I think it is still for sale, but it seems NOT based on the Echostar MyPal DVR, but a different platform. With the latest model, you are provided a EPG but it is rudimentary and limited to a few day, but if one pays an extra annual fee, one gets a far more robust EPG that, I thought, included name based recording. Yes, considering how expensive the latest Channel Master was and with very few features and no name based recording (unless the extra fee is paid, I think), TiVo from an eBay auction with lifetime can be LESS expensive, and the TiVo is easily superior to the Channel Master. In fact, some of the bargain or promotional sales offered by TiVo--dramatically reduced price and bundled with other equipment and, in one case, a lower monthly fee--it still works out better than the Channel Master.

I don't think Channel Master will be selling that model anymore either. They've out of stock for several months now and there is a rumor that a new model is on it's way. They were kind of pricey though. $380 for the unit and $50 a year for the guide service.

If they could squeeze better EPG data on that stream, remaking the DTVPal would be an awesome move, especially if they tossed a TB hard drive in. Low recording space and band EPG data were the deal killers. I'd give serious thought to being a customer.
