I started with a 311 and an 811 a little over a year ago. Then I bought a 922 and had them turn off the 311. I asked what should I do with it and they said they will send an empty box for me to send it back. That was 2 months ago and no empty box. Do they really want it back or is it mine now?

Short answer is no, the box most likely got sent to the wrong address ( have you moved since you started service with dish?) or it never got sent to you. Check your bank and credit card statements for any charge from dish for $150 - $300 that you dont recognize as being for programming or the 922, this means that they have charged you for that 311 that you never got a box for.

Nope, I have been in the same place since I sub'ed. They dont have my bank or credit card info and they arnt getting that. I guess when I call to cancel the protection plan on my account I'll ask if they want the 311 back cause I dont need it.

Simple answer is if it is a lease, it will always be a lease, unless, in certain situations, you specifically pay Charlie to buy that particular box, then you own it.

If you are under a lease promotion they got your credit card number initially. They require it for all lease promo's

If you do not return it you may see a charge on your credit card for not returning it sometime in the future.

Ask for another box.

Just give em the darn thing back - there are only a very few amount of agreements out there where that whole 1 year or 3 year or whatever contract actually works.

A 311 is only worth what, $50 maybe 75 on ebay anyway?

It probably won't be worth anything as E* will not activate it for another "owner", i.e., if you are able to sell it, the unit will still be noted as "MIA" (stolen?) in E*'s records and won't be reactivated until the account is cleared. I assume that means they'll be looking for someone to repay the full value of the unit, whatever that is.

I agree - just return it. It's not worth the hassle. If you return it on your own, make sure you get a tracking number. I'm sure a CSR or someone in Tech Service can give you the correct address...
