Equipment need for a DIY directtv install

Curious what equipment I need as far as specialized parts go for Slim line dish, and an older 3lnb dish. One new DVR - HD reciever and 1 HD reciever.

I purchased a 4x8 mulitswitch which takes power. I'm assuming I needed some kind of inline power instead or will that work the same?

You can't use the 4x8 switch with the hd receivers, besides you don't need it if the lnb is the four wire type. I'm not sure about your first post where you mentioned two dishes. Anyway, if the lnb is the four wire type, just connect two from the dish to the dvr and one to the receiver. Don't forget you need to install a bbc on each cable unless the dvr and receiver are H/HR23 models. If the lnb is the one wire type, then you will also need a power inserter and a splitter designed for use in a swm setup.

You can use the wire in your house if it's RG6 and there are no splitters in line.

You didn't mention that you wanted to feed six rooms before. You said you had one dvr and one receiver. Are you using one dvr and one receiver to feed 6 rooms or are you going to have 6 dvrs/receivers?

Sorry, the 5 LNB for my house will feed 5 rooms for sure, and i'm thinking about doing our garage. the 3LNB will only do two.

No reason at all. I'm guessing the 3 lnb dish is a Phase III, sd only dish, yes? If so, you will have to change the dish setup in the menu when you take a receiver on the road.

Not sure actually. I thought when DTV installed that for us many years ago they said it was HD capable. Anyways to know by looking at it? Any specialized equipment i'll need to setup the 5LMB slimline in our house? I guess i'm looking for the easiest way possible. NOt worried about the alignment portion as I've done that many times (high winds and snow storms here)

Is the 3 lnb dish the same size and shape as the Slimline or is it smaller? If smaller, it's a Phase III and not hd capable. They were at one time, but Directv has changed how they transmit their hd channels.

You need to start with one problem and wait for an answer before you pepper us with more questions. Searching is also a valuable tool for finding detailed answers that already exist.

It is important to note that if you're using legacy equipment, you need a coaxial cable for each tuner, not each receiver. Most DVRs feature two tuners so they will beg for two cables. You can run with a single cable, but you'll not be able to watch one channel and record another.

Another thing you need to know: DIRECTV doesn't allow for new DIY installs (they won't create a new account based on a DIY install). If you want to do a DIY, you need to go through an authorized installing DIRECTV dealer and beg them to allow you to DIY.

Well, using SD for the road isnt the end of the world. I do appreciate the help. Now, what equipment would I need for the 5LNB slimline? It's got 4 outputs on it, i'd like to setup 6 rooms. a 4x8 multiswitch won't work? What about a inline power inserter + SWM capable splitter?

You could use a 6x8 Zinwell. They are designed for hd use. To use the power inserter, you need a swm lnb and a swm splitter. Don't forget about the bbc's in the non swm setup.

No, it will not.

In addition to a WB68 or WB616, you'll also need a B-Band Converter (BBC) for each and every HD tuner as Chip pointed out.

It would be helpful to know how many DVRs and receivers you plan on installing in these six rooms because if you go over 8 tuners, you'll be into some serious money in terms of receivers and switchgear.
