ESPN: 720p or 1080i? Wilt, please answer.

I've posted this in the Satelliteguys forum, but put it over here to hopefully get a response from Wilt H.

I'm aware ESPN produces in 720p, but it was earlier posted that Voom was sending it at 1080i. Is this still going on? I have no way to check this with my TV, but I hope Voom has gone back to sending it in the way it was intended to be seen. I hope that if it is still going on, Voom will go back to sending the channel to Voomers at 720p, giving us the option of changing the STB settings to fit our displays native rez. Is it still going on? If so, why? Will this be permanent or temporary. Thanks.

Wilt, we know ESPN is 720P, what cyuhnke is asking is: Is it still being broadcast by Voom in 1080i? It has been since it launched, my pj can tell me the resolution of the signal that it receives via DVI. I haven't checked it in a couple of weeks so we were just wondering if Voom is going to send it out in 720p instead of 1080i.

Thanks, and while you're reading this, Wilt, what's up with the Mosquito Noise on EquatorHD? Are you making any progress on this issue? If you want to see it, just tune in any "Over" or "Shirikami Mountains", they reek of mosquito noise.

Wilt, it has been confirmed that Voom is delivering ESPN-HD to us at 1080i. It seems to have been this way for about a month at least. As you previously mentioned, ESPN-HD is produced at 720p. Why is Voom "upconverting" the signal? The whole benefit of 720p is progressive scan. Will this be permanent of temporary? Thanks in advance.

Okay, here's the deal.
I was, once again, wrong. :-(
We had to keep it at 1080i because of a problem with a piece of timing
equipment in the video chain.
As soon as we can rectify that we'll put it at 720p again.
Figure it's better to have a stable 1080i than an intermittent 720p, purism
notwithstanding.

I have the same issue also. I wish there was a way to change the resolution from the
remote. My Hughes E86 DirecTV receiver has the resolution switching feature.

PLEASE LEAVE ESPN AT 1080i

Those incompetents at espn should have made it 1080i. However, Voom has the inteligence to get it up to 1080i from 720p. 720p is not high definition it is DVD quality not true HD neither is FOX's 480p.. what is wrong with these people.. advertising HD with 720p and 480p neither is remotely the quality of 1080i. Voom PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave ESPN at 1080i

You are uninformed. 720P is high definition. DVD is 480P. I vote to put ESPN back to 720P.

I also vote for 720p. You can set the box to "upconvert" it to 1080i, but in reality 720p gives a better viewing experience than 1080i.
