I have my DVR set to record 2 min early and end 3 min late. I have it set to record The Office and 30 Rock. For some reason 30 Rock is skipped. Why does that happen? The DVR should just continue recording!!! That has happened a few times now.
Just set it for the office but to end 30 mins later, thats what i do.I have my DVR set to record 2 min early and end 3 min late. I have it set to record The Office and 30 Rock. My only problem was with Thursday where Grey's Anatomy, CSI, and 30 Rock are opposite each other. The solution was to put 30 Rock on OTA. (Lost one due to slip-on cable, slipping off.) That does not solve the problem of ER then starting before the hour and losing the opening by CSI preceding it--dog gone networks--nor the problem of Grey's randomly or not running long by 1 to 5 min as well as 1 min early shortening Ugly Betty, just trying to get more ad money.
I was under the understanding that if you used the "padding" then it would be smart enough not to cancel the next recording (say 30 rock after The Office). But if you actually go in and change the timer start and end times, then it would cancel that second recording. So maybe use the padding instead. If it goes over, you will have it at the beginning of the next show. Its better than losing the second show altogether.
If you can, you might be better off putting CSI on the OTA tuner. If i have shows running in succession, I try to have them record on the same tuner so any underrun or overrrun gets caught by the next recording.
Actually if you leave the 1 min early 3 min late "factory" default it will corectly record back to back shows on the same tuner. (ending and starting times now 0) If you change either the early or late times then is when it no longer will use the same tuner for back to back shows causing conflicts.
Just set it for the office but to end 30 mins later, thats what i do.
Then you would need to set the timer on The Practice to start 4 minutes late. If you are actually changing the time on the Timer then the box is going to see that as absolute. Its not going to be smart enough to know that you added that time because its longer and now The Practice is not starting then (unless its in the guide that way). If the Grey's timer is, say , 8:00 - 9:04 and the Practice timer is 9:00-10:00 its seeing 2 different recordings from 9:00-9:04 and its going to follow priority rules. If you set the Practice timer to 9:04-10:00 then it should be fine. Using the padding, if it sees a conflict then it just doesn't record the padding. Yeah you may miss the last minute, but you won't miss an entire recording. The box isn't going to say "oh you added 4 minutes to this timer, you must want the next show to start 4 mintues late". All its sees is the hardcoded time for each recording.Everytime I record Grey's Anatomy, I miss the last minute of the program and have to go to the Practice to watch the last of the first show. So, I set the Grey's timer to end four minutes late and it skips the practice.
I have the same problem, but I swear, a few software updates ago, the receiver was smart enough to fix this problem on its own...
That was what was happening to me which is why I changed the timers.Everytime I record Grey's Anatomy, I miss the last minute of the program and have to go to the Practice to watch the last of the first show. So, I set the Grey's timer to end four minutes late and it skips the practice. Dish should adjust the timer to end on time and start on time and let us adjust those that need adjusting. Three minutes late is not three minute late when you miss the end of a program.
That would be ideal. The thing that annoys me about this is that I used to have Comcast in Boston (or Comcrap, or Crapcast; whichever you prefer) and this never happened. It seemed like the actual guide info was more accurate, and I never had to tinker with start and end times. When the Office and 30 Rock recorded, it got the endings dead on; no weird overlapping, no having to watch the beginning of one to see the end of the other... If that makes any sense...
