Hi Guys,

Temporilly, I want to hook up a new HR24 receiver to an old (but already aimed) 18" round dish. Helping out a friend that bought and activated the receiver at their vacation home (DTV installed it). Now they are home and want to just get up and running with the old sd round dish until I have time to install and aim a Slimline dish for them next week.

I've done this a few yr ago but forgot what settings to change in the set up guide. Also not sure what port to use for the sat in--SWM or the other one. I see several options for the dish type as well as the tuner (I assue it will be single). Any hints??

Thanks!!

you will have to do a redo satellite setup (its in the menus)

it would be option 1 (18") and multiswitch

now if you have a SWM setup already I've heard it can be a pain in the arse to switch from SWM to non SWM.....since its a receiver and not a DVR sometimes a master reset (again in the menu setup option...reset everything) might be easier as it clears all favorites and settings. Since the dish is aimed already it will find the right setup for what you have.

OK, I'll try that. What sat in do I use--SWM or the other??

Thanks!!

you dont use the SWM at all

Hook a cable to the LNB and the other end to the sat input on the back of the reciever

Are you sure you mean h24 and not hr24?? By saying you have an input labeled swm and another one i assume you mean coax, and then yes, they would only have one tuner and the setting would need to be changed by repeating satellite setup, but you would use sat1 as your input, when the box starts up and fails to find sat signal, press menu on the remote and repeat sat setup and make sure dual tuner is set to single and your coax is in sat1. Then hit 18" round and continue, it will yell at you about hd and improper dish and such, but will let you continue.

Yes, it is a HR24, my mistake. I'll have to relay this over the phone now and they aren,t really tech savy--wish me luck ;)

that does make a difference. If you want to use both tuners then you need 2 lines from the LNB to the receiver. If you only use one tuner plug the cable into sat 1 input and when you change the satellite setup you select
1 18" round
multiswitch
and change tuner to single (or 1...I forget what the option is)

Got it!! Thanks Guys!!!!!! Probably be bugging you again in a few wks when I aim their Slimline--been a couple of yr since I did mine but I'll go through the notes I have.

Forgot to mention that during the set up I used the red re-boot button a few times. I thought that it would delete the recordings that they had saved but they tell me that everything is still there--I guess I learned something new today as well.

a red button reboot doesnt delete timers/recordings

a reset everything does ;)
O.K. cool. I remember you telling me to hit that button back when I was finished ( a few days after) with the Slimline dish aiming a few yr ago--I never did since the Wife had some recordings that she wanted to keep. I figured that since we had good signal strength and no rain fade I would leave well enough alone--I was afraid that all her recorded stuff would disappear--right along with my happiness ;).
