I am thinking about buying my folks a Dish 322 reciever off of Ebay to replace their very old Dish 1000 reciever. I would like to give them the option of wating Dish in their bedroom as well. Right now, they are using the old rabbit ears setup in the bedroom. Time to move them into the 21st century.

Anyways, I was wondering if the 322 was really worth it. The bedroom is about 60 to 70 feet away and there are about 3 - 5 walls between the TV's. Is it worth getting it, or should I just buy them another reciever for the bedroom alone.

Looking for advice from others who have tried this.

Thanks ahead of time for the help!:hatsoff:

You being there is really the only one who can answer this, because you can see how easy or hard it is going to be to run the additional line from the 322 to their bedroom. If your going to run a line for a separate receiver, why not just save the $5 and go 322.

If you do go this route, why bother with buying used off ebay, if their planning on staying as Dish customers, why not just renew a contract and theyll get it and install for free.

Hmmm...

Some good points NiFi. Well... they are still subscribing and I was told this is not a freebie receiver from Dish. You have to pay $150 for the receiver alone. So, I have no problems installing this for them. I just want to be sure the UHF portion will work across those distances and having those obstacles to go through.

The nice thing about 322's is you can diplex that UHF antenna port onto TV2 line and back off at the TV2 location. I personally haven't had a need to try it yet, but there are quite a few that claim to have done it.

If the walls are all the old stucco and lath thats going to be your best bet as the UHF signal will not go through that much stucco. It wouldn't even go through one stucco wall with the metal backing that was used at one point also.

One thing to keep in mind is that its going to be hard to get that 322 activated. I was working with another tech recently and the customer had 3 322's one of wich he purchased from a local retailer. Upon activation my fellow employee had to spend an hour on the phone trying to get the purchased unit activated. Dish does not sell 322's nor are any of the retailers supposed to aparently and the same is supposed to go for any 322 that you may aquire outside of any promotion that dish has. I would first contact dish directly before you purchase this 322 and get the ok from them to persue your current endeavor, and above all else make sure that when you get the ok that you first get the CSR's OPERATOR ID and also tell them to put notes on your account to this effect.

I have been having luck having a UHF Pro signal go through a block wall or two but the antenna was placed outside to where the signal could hit it better.

doing a dish in it up upgrade through a retailer may end up being cheaper anyway.... depending on what lnb and switch combo they currently have, you may have to switch out their legacy stuff for a DishProPlus lnb and using a seperator... or best case, they have a legacy twin, you would just need to run the second coax from the dish to the 322.
personally i would call a retailer, let them run the info, and see what they can do... having them run the application doesn't lock you into any commitment until the equipment is installed and activated

All great info guys.

I went ahead and called DishNetwork and was told I can change out there Dish 1000 receiver with the New 322 with no problem. They currently have a Dish 500 up on the roof with a SW21. Of course, I should have known that when the support personnel told me that it would be "plug and play" I should have known it wouldn't.
I should have read this post again before jumping into this endeavor. lol
After I plugged in the receiver, I could only get one of the satellites to come in during the "check switch". Turns out, like you guys mentioned, I either need to run anoter dedicated line to the roof, or buy a Dish Pro TWIN LNBF to change out the orginal dual LNB. I think I will just run another line up to the roof. Only about $26 for a 100ft of RG6. Then I should be in business.

I hope that is all?????? lol

Thanks for all of your info.

Well, I am not sure about that one.

I just ordered a Dish Pro TWIN LNBF for my folks Dish 500 so that I would not have to run a second line to the dish. Then use the seperator that came with the receiver to connect to the two Dish inputs at the back of the receiver. That is supposed to be it.

I sure hope so. That is what I was told by Dish.

That only works with the DishPro Plus Twin or the DPP44. With the DP Twin you will have to either run the second line or wait for an exchange to get the DPP Twin.

Ok, now I am getting confused

I was told that the Dish Pro TWin LNBF would make this happen. So you are saying I still will have to run a second line up to the dish?

What do you mean by "wait for an exchange"?

The DishPro Twin and DishPro Plus Twin are 2 different things.

If your goal is to run one line from the dish with a separator at the 322, you need the DPP Twin. You may need to wait for an exchange if you ordered the DP Twin which will not support the single line connection unless you add the expensive DPP44 switch.

Ok, lets hope..

So, I ordered the DishPro Plus Twin LNBF on Ebay and this is what the guy stated on his ad.

This LNBF receives the 119º West and 110º West orbital locations and delivers them to up to two receivers. Either output port can feed on a single cable:

- A DISH Pro single-tuner receiver
- A DP Plus dual-tuner receiver with a DP Plus Separator
- A Legacy receiver (without a DISH Pro Adapter)

So, my folks said it just arrived at their house, but my dad said it looks like the one already on their Dish antenna. If I remember correctly, the Dish Pro and the Dish Pro Plus do look simliar from the outside. I HOPE!!!

By the way, what do you mean by "wait for the exchange?"

Will try it out this weekend. Wish me luck. LOL
:D

Cool

One more thing. I read something about temporarily using a Dish Pro complaint splitter to take the inital software upgrade. What is that? So, I can't go to Radio Shack and buy a cable splitter for this? Geez, they really get you in the pocket. lol

Does anyone know about this splitter thing?

Also, I went up to look at the antenna and I see that there old Dish 500 satellite is connected with a D926 Diplexor. Never heard about that before. Must be an old legacy splitter?? Can I re-use this for the install of the new LNB?

Never mind...

I actually got lucky and found the answer from another post. I did a search for Dish Pro splitters and found out that 90% of the folks installing a dual tuner reciever do not use a splitter whatsoever. Just the line from the Dish to the spererator to the 2 tuner plug in on the reciever.

Thanks again all! I will attempt this install this weekend (weather permitting).

:)

All done! 322 up and running!

Ok, everyone...

I got it dialed in relatively easy. Put on the Dish Pro Plus LNB, with no switch whatsoever, and plugged the coax directly into the Duplexor that was furnished with the reciever. Then ran the checkswitch. AWAY we go! Works great in both rooms.

Thanks for all of your advice and help!
