How to setup and run sd dvd player

I have a Sony "V" series Bravia HDTV with a Directv H21-200 HD receiver. The DTV installer refused to install my Panasonic (DVD-RV21) DVD SD player so I am trying to do it myself. This DVD player is connected to my HDTV with an S-Video and Audio cables.

I programmed my DTV remote and it powers up, starts and stops the DVD. I moved the mode switch to "AV1" and for whatever reason, I am not getting video and audio. It's probably an easy answer but I'm not much of a tech guy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you select the TV input that the DVD player is connected to?

Thanks, jdspencer, the TV input was the answer. The DTV remote doesn't work but the Sony remote switches the TV input to AV1
