Reboot it, at the "self-check" screen hit the select button on the remote (or front face panel). There are several tools, but the one that will be most useful is likely the short hard drive test.

The HR24-100 has a fan issue. Just mention to 'em its fan is making noise and they send out a different model of the HR24 and probably tell ya to keep the HR24-100.
