hey i called dish to ask about installing a 5 room of sat tv in my home and they say i will need a dpp44 switch thats like 125 bucks.i have four rooms no with 2 duel tuners. cant i just splice in somewhere without the switch? i dont want a mirror tv im getting a 311 box for the 5 th room .someone tell me how to get around this please.

i have 4 rooms now with two of those duel tuner type sat boxes. i want to run another line to a new 311 sat box in my shop you see. They make this seem like rocket science.

I dont think you can use Direct TV switches. Unless you want to watch the same thing as another TV you will need to run a new line to the new receiver.

You could use a DP Quad and a 34 switch. It's cheaper then a DPP44 switch, and hopefully you already have a DP Quad, so the only thing you'll need is a DP34.

With this configuration you could hook 6 tuners.

You know the standard installation today is a DPP Twin with 2 dual tuners. If he switches to DP quad he will need two lines run to each dual tuner instead of the current single with separrators. I say add a DPP44 or for the 311 he could install another complete dish.:)

True. I was thinking he had a total of 5 single tuners, now I see two dual's and a 301 for the fifth. I stand revised.

Back to what you were saying- I've seen installs where a 2nd dish installation was just because of that reason. I've had to use quads on two dual tuners as well. (NOT FUN!)

Alright. DP Twin/Quad or 2 DP Duals & DPP44 Switch. Easiest route.

Thanks.......you guys have really helped, had not even thought about getting another dish for that 5th room. PEACE AND CHICKEN GREASE!

use a 1000.2 dish. connect 2 dual tunners with seperators and a single tuner for the 5th room.

A 1000.2 dish kit would cost more then the 44 switch! ;) Also try to shy away from using a DP Quad with a 34 switch. The Quad has a switch built into it also. Whenver you put a Twin/Quad in the line with a 34 switch you're asking for trouble. Since the receiver communicates with the switch/LNBs with the DiSEqC technology, both of the switches will try to operate and it will throw the receiver for a loop. Dish will tell you that when you have that scenario that the 34 switch is supposed to intercept the DiSEqC signal and not allow it to pass to the twin/quad, but half the time it doesn't work like that. I've seen too many cases in the field where the customer has a dish 1000 with a twin a dual and a 34 switch. If you look at the switch matrix and it shows X, 110, 129. Both the 34 switch and the twin are trying to switch. Change it over to three duals and the 34 switch, and bam! Works like a champ. Best bet is to go with either 2 DP Duals and 2 - 34 switchs or a single 44 switch. Either way would cost about the same.
