Need four receivers.

I just had a frustrating chat with a Dish Network rep that keeps spouting cut and paste information that I already know. Extremely helpful I must say... anyway, here is what I am trying to accomplish. I wish to get Dish Network. I want one DVR 722 for HD content, however, I want it in single mode in my living room so I can simultaneously watch and record two different live programs. I also want the capability of a standard definition DVR in my master bedroom (say a DVR 625). I then have 3 other bedrooms that I want standard definition viewing in which would be a 322 and 311 or two 322's. Problem is dish seems to see this as an 7 or 8 room system (they only allow a 4 room system) and I cannot for the life of me get it through to them what I am trying to accomplish. Anyone have any brilliant ideas how to obtain this setup through Dish?

The rep kept telling me the 722 can record, watch a hd channel on one tv, and a standard channel on another tv. I am sure it is capable of it, but not all at the same time (unless you are watching a recorded show of course). I frequently will be recording say HBO at 8:00pm, watching the Science Channel at 8:00pm, live, and my wife wanting to watch the HG Network live at 8:00pm. I tried explaining to the rep that is 3 live channels with two tuners and asked them how the tuner could accomplish this. Of course I got the same cut and paste info block I got the first time. Never could get an answer other than " the system will determine what hardware you need".

So, if I am missing a critical piece of information to patch this all together then please let me know. I am pretty positive that I don't know everything!

you can only lease like 4 tuners, anything over that you have to buy... a 722= 2, 625 i am assuming is 2,, 322 is 2 more, anda 311 would be a 7th...

I had that problem too. My only solution, but another receiver.

Yeah they only allow you to lease up to four tuners. 722 and 625 would be your four. The others you would have to purchase.

It's my understanding that the 612 HDDVR dual tuner/one output receiver can be counted as one tuner against the 4 tuner limit. A 625 as a second DVR would then have to share output to another room. Add a 311 and you are within the lease limit. If there is any CSR resistance to this, then a polite CEO email might solve the problem.

Ok, so the maximum of 4 leased is for tuners! Great to know. I don't have a problem buying additional receivers at all but I couldn't even get the CSR to tell me that I could add purchased recievers to an account. I thought maybe only 4 tuners total per account was all that was permissible. Does anyone know that additional monthy charge added to your account for a purchased receiver, say a purchased 322?

you either pay a lease fee, or a receiver fee, they are both the same price...

I had the same issue with them as I wanted to do the exact same thing. I went through three reps until I got one who understood and leased me a 722, leased me a 311 and sold me a 311.

So far so good until the install guy came with a 722, a 311 and two 301's instead of the second 311 and I got charged for both of them. But at least I had all the tuners I needed.

Called Dish back explained I didnt get the tuner I paid for, had to get passed up the line to an account specialist who reworked the entire bill, sent me a new 311 and told me to keep the 301's as spares.

Item of note: they charge you a $60 hook up fee for each tuner beyond the first 4 they install. This was not disclosed to me, so I got it waved after I got my first bill. That fee added $120 to my first months bill. Dish also has some confusing terminolgy on this. They call a receiver the actual box on your TV. They call the unit inside of it that receives the signal the tuner. Its the number of "Tuners" that they count, not the number of "Receivers" Which is why a 722 run in single mode hooked up to one TV is counted as 2 tuners.

Similar to what happened to me. I just order Dish (Everything Pack, HD Ultimate, etc). I have 4 HDTVs (2 DRV, 2 normal) to feed, and 3 SDTVs. I ended up, after about 2 hours on the phone with the CSR:

1 722 (Dual tuner HD DVR) (counts as 2 TVs as far as the limit of 4 leases go)
1 612 (Dual tuner HD DVR)
2 211 (Single tuner HD) - had to buy one, lease the other

Kept the SDTVs on cable for now - dealing with 4 TVs was hard enough, can't imagine how long it would have taken them to figure out how to handle 7.

On another note, they would not, under any circumstances, sell me something other than a 211. I asked about a price on a 612 or another 722, I mean, if I'm spending $249 to buy a 211, I'd be happy to pay an extra $250 per so and get a DVR. No doing. Even his supervisor said that they could not sell me a 612 or 722 - which I find just weird.

Lease 2 722s if you can. They are the most flexible, even if you never decide to use the second TV output. Buying something like a 301 or other standard definition tuner can be very cheap. A 322 is probably a better investment though since you can drive 2 TVs and save $5/month, will pay for itself in a couple years.

The 722 has 3 tuners 2 satellite and one OTA (if you can get OTA). You can record/watch 3 at once, but of course if you are recording 3 you will only be able to watch one of the ones being recorded or a previously recorded channel, you will not be able to watch a 4th (or 5th on second TV) channel.

The reason the Dish csr did not tell you about purchased receivers is because they do not normally sell them directly. You would need to contact a local dealer. to go beyond 4 tuners you will also need either a dish 1000.2 or an addtional external multiswitch Dp34 or most likely a DPP44.

Does anyone know that additional monthy charge added to your account for a purchased receiver, say a purchased 322?

Additional 322 will cost you $5/month if connected to a land based phone line or $10/month with no phone line.
