New Genie™ HD DVR ?mirror options?

Hi,

if i order direct tv....with one genie dvr and one c 31 client.....can u mirror to third tv with rf modula or cox....to void extra receiver cost?

If you want to use coax all you need is a RF modulator as the Genie does not have coax out

If you want HD, then you can run a HDMI cable and get a splitter for that. But it depends on what you want (HD or not) and how far are these remote TV's away

They are a pretty good ways away. I actually built the house and have access to run wires or cable. I have a on q drop in box in my garage, that i have access to all wires and cables through out the house.

You could run 5 coax lines to the 2nd tv and you could have hd. You could run a long HDMI cable and have HD. You could use CAT5 and convert it to have HD. You could use a modulator and 1 coax line and have SD. There are also wireless options. It really just depends on how much you want in picture and how much you want to spend.

One very important thing that everyone has left out, is that as soon as you plug composite cables into the back of the genie and hook into a rf mod, your going to get this nice ugly screen that says YOUR TV OR ITS CABLES ARE NOT HD PRESS AND HOLD EXIT TO ENTER STANDARD DEFINITION MODE. sorry for caps, but it is a big ugly screen lol.

Point is, by mirroring, your will effectively kill the hd signal going to the original tv. Unfortunately there is currently no way to remedy this unless you feed your second tv via component (5 cables) or a second hdmi with a hdmi splitter or switch.

Paying the extra 6bucks a month is probably a simpler solution, but where there is a will there is a way.

To do this, you would need to purchase an RF Mod, hint tip your tech to leave an extra one.... and a set of composite cables, red white yellow rca cables. Connect the RWY cables to the back of the genie in the appropriate colored ports, and then to the matching ports on the RF Mod, then connect a coax from your "Out to TV" port on the RF Mod to the catv in on your second tv. Tune to channel 3, and all is done. BUT read my above post.

Splitting the HDMI is the way to go along with switching the remote to be used to RF.

I use an old VCR to convert composite out to ch 3 which feeds a TV in another room. I have Jensen RF to IR wireless transmitters. Just sucks to have to press and hold exit in the other room to revert the receiver to SD and rid the ugly message.
