CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME A BETTER IDEA OF HOW THIS WORKS?
I WANNA BUY AN ANTENNA AND A COUPLE OF RECEIVERS, BUT THERE ARE TO MANY FREAKING OPTIONS!!!
A FRIEND OF MINE IS RECOMMENDING THE VIEWSAT ULTRA.
WITH THE ANTENNA, HOW BIG TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT?
DO YOU RECOMMEND THE MOTOR?? HOW MANY CHANNELS WOULD I GET AND HOW EASY IS IT TO INSTALL IT MYSELF??

PLEASE HELP!!! ......

I personally have a motorized system but it didn't start out that way, and it all depends on how interested you are in learning how it all works.

How about the 1 room at a time approach , unless every room is gonna get a motorized setup.

If you are going for 4 rooms, you probably don't want to do a motor.

You need to check TheList on this board, or check Lyngsat for which channels you want the most.

Your dish should be at least 36" and you would need a dual linear LNBF and a 3x4 switch to serve 4 receivers. This would feed 1 LNBF to 4 receivers. You could also use 2 dual LNBF mounted on 1 dish for 2 satellite positions, like 97 and 101 or some other 4 degree pair and a 4x4 switch.

The possibilites are really endless depending upon how many dishes you want and how many satellite positions you are interested in.

A motor does not go well with 4 receivers due to the fact that everyone has to be on the same satellite and I don't see how you would get 4 receivers the ability to control the motor. One would have to serve the motor and then the rest would be limited to whatever the motor was on at that time.

I think you will want at least 1 dish and 1 LNBF. You could always add LNBF's or dishes with the right switches.

Looking For Channels In South America, Mainly Ecuador......

South American channels are found in larger numbers on C-band, which means a big antenna, typically 7 to 10 feet in diameter.
Go to www.global-cm.net and study the MPEG-2 section, which has detailed channel charts by satellite, as well as specialized charts showing Latin American channels by country. For Ecuador, your best bet would be
55.5 West (Intelsat 805). What part of the U.S. are you located?
Will be a bit of a challenge on the west coast due to low elevation angles.

LNBF just means that the feedhorn and LNB are all built together as one part, as with a DirecTV LNBF. On many commercial dishes, LNB and feedhorn are separate parts, and can be changed independently.

The Invacom Quad is a good choice for multi-room receivers, since it has two outputs for circular and two for linear satellites. Its like having a circular dual output and a linear dual output LNBF all in one piece. You only need circular if you want to receive the few clear channels on Dish Network (see below). You will need a dual output LNBF to connect to two receivers, and a dual output LNBF and multiswitch to connect to more than two receivers.

DirecTV and Dish are not FTA, they are pay services. You will be able to receive only a few channels from Dish Network which are unencrypted (NASA-TV, Angel One, and a few preview-type channels), and none from DirecTV since they use a proprietary stream.
