Olympic Men's Hockey

Hockey and Golf threads have been tried many, many, many times in the past so I don't feel they will fare any better these days. I would love to post in a B1G Hockey Thread (now that we're in the inaugural season) but for years Iceberg and I were the only ones posting in the NCAA Hockey Thread, with an occasional visit from BillD and one or two others. Most forum participants just want to yell SEC and watch a car drive around in circles IMO.

Anyway, I don't have time to post when only one or two individuals are reading my sage words, and unintelligible rants and observations.

The Bruins have 5 players from 5 different countries.

Chara (Slovakia)

Bergeron (Canada)

Rask (Finland)

Eriksson (Sweeden)

Krejci (Czech Rep)

Should of had a 6th with Torrey Krug, but he wasn't selected to team US for some unknown reason.

These topics are more than welcomed to be discussed here my friend. We've had some new participants in the sports section this past year but unfortunately none interested in some of these sports. If you know anyone else who would contribute to these threads invite them over. I have tried but have had no success finding new members for these topics riffj. I'm not into hockey but am into Golf and I stopped trying to post in these threads due to low participation. But again, they will not be erased and creating them may attract an outsider. You never know ;)

2 Sharks selected for Team Canada, Pickles (Marc-Edward Vlasic) and Patrick Marleau. 3 snubbed, Dan Boyle, Jumbo Joe Thornton, and Logan Coture.

Jumbo has really upped his game the past couple years and added new dimensions to his game so I'm surprised he was left off after being on last 2 Olympic Squads.

Boyle is showing his age, no surprise.

Coture should have been on the team but with the announcement last night that he is undergoing hand surgery tomorrow and is out 3-4 weeks this may be why.

For me, the biggest surprise is Team USA NEVER considered Justin Braun, he has become an amazing shut down defenseman.

With so much talent to choose from its more than a little curious that linemates with intimate knowledge of how each other plays are snubbed in favor
of line pairings where the players aren't familiar with linemates thinking and tendencies.

Team Canada

Goalies: Carey Price, Roberto Luongo, Mike Smith

Defence: Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, Dan Hamhuis, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Alex Pietrangelo, Jay Bouwmeester, PK Subban, Drew Doughty

Forwards: Jamie Benn, Patrice Bergeron, Jeff Carter, Sidney Crosby, Matt Duchene, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Marleau, Rick Nash, Corey Perry, Patrick Sharp, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares and Jonathan Toews.

I'll post more rosters this evening.

Cheers, K

Hockey and Golf threads have been tried many, many, many times in the past so I don't feel they will fare any better these days. I would love to post in a B1G Hockey Thread (now that we're in the inaugural season) but for years Iceberg and I were the only ones posting in the NCAA Hockey Thread, with an occasional visit from BillD and one or two others. Most forum participants just want to yell SEC and watch a car drive around in circles IMO.

Anyway, I don't have time to post when only one or two individuals are reading my sage words, and unintelligible rants and observations.

Hey man, am sorry I didnt mean to offend anyone. I just thought Olympic Hockey would be a good topic to discuss, I didnt realize that the majority of our fellow Satguys members had little to no interest in the sport.

My bad, K

Group A is the toughest... happy to see Team USA in it!

Pens have seven players going, should be eight. Nash over Neil is ridiculous.

Stevie Y has a great hockey mind, but I can't explain why Nash is on the team. Unless being big and having international experience are the 2 main requirements, he should'nt have even been on Team Canada's radar even before this summer's training camps.

Neil, Couture, Giroux.. heck even Thornton.. Unreal!

Since Mike Babcock is coaching team Canada and Yzerman is the team director, if team USA were to get eliminated in the tournament first, then I'll route for team Canada afterward.
