I am trying to set up a new Slimline KA/KU satellite with a new HR-24 HD/DVR box. I have 4 lines running off of the satellite and into the house. Two of the lines go to the new box and the other 2 go into the spare bedrooms w/o boxes. When I run the setup on the box it keeps saying it can not configure the satellite. When i look at the signal meter it tells me that Tuner 1 & 2 are not acquired??? Is this because it is not pointed correctly or am i missing a part somewhere? I have bbc on the new box but still tells me that it cannot acquire a tuner.
I called directv and they are trying to charge me an arm/leg to send out a service tech.

I have done a little reading but not being an expert in this area it seems to all go over my head. Do I need a SWM switch?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks

Well, first, you are hooking up a satellite DISH - not a satellite (that's miles up in the air :) )

But it should work AS LONG AS IT IS AIMED CORRECTLY, which with what you posted, sounds like it's not. In the initial setup...

- did you select the correct dish?
- do you have it pointed at the correct coordinates? (get them from the setup screen)
- have you tried moving the dish to see if some signal comes in?

It is a little harder to align these dishes as they have to be adjusted on 3 axis'.

It IS possible to get a bad tuner (I got a new R15 that had 1 bad tuner) but 2 seems a stretch. Since this is a new setup, I'm betting your alignment is off.

Check out the install videos here:

they can help show you how to setup your dish.

You do NOT need a switch of any kind.
Looks like you have the correct stuff.
I have never had that type of error message.

Why does D* want a large amount of money to come out ?
Normally it's $50, is this an install for them ?

I would guess that the dish is not pointed correctly first.

If you are a new customer you should have qualified for a free install. If you were too smart for the free install I would expect a $100 for the install.

You can struggle with the unknown that is probably beyond your capabilities or call D* and schedule an install and hope you haven't already damaged the dish especially the adjustment bolts.
