In house, I'm pretty sure. Cablevision owned. They sound pretty cheesy to me, especially for $40 p/mo.

I also though about this V* dbs service while reading a new flyer that CV sent me yesterday offering digital cable and HDTV channels.

VOOM, maybe new but it is the same people that

(a) took two years to bring digital cable to my neighborhood.

(b) were charging me for two accounts in my house because it was legally defined as a two family house (when I switched to E* this was not the case).

(c) are taking forever to bring any new HDTV channels. They now carry HBO, SHO, MSG & FXSPNT, CBS, FOX, & PBS. They are still missing all the other channels. Just to remind me that MSG & FoxSpornet only trasnmit HD when Knicks, Rangers or Mets play home.

(d) own the Knicks who have done so much harm to the franchise by trying to get a playoff team and not a championship team.

(e) charge $7/movie for VOD.

and I am sure I can find others...

So after thinking about it. I will not put too much weight on this new service until they get more credibility. In the past, CV has not been very creditable at all.

Those V* exclusive channels seam cheesy to me too, it will cost a lot of money to run a bunch of O and O networks to be run exclusively on a 3rd rate DBS company only, and $39.90 per month for 40 channels no one has heard of is pricy indead. If anything I think V* will eventualy sell out to E* or D*.

The "Voom" name seems cheasy to me. 40 HD channels for $40 does not seem like a bad price seeing how HD is just now getting its start, if they would have some interesting channels in the lineup.

Dish would not be the HD leader if Voom debuts with all these HD channels and that would be their own advantage over Dish and Direct in that they would have something different than what they would have. I am sure Dish would follow with many HD channel offerings in the future, but the question is when. Dish better do something if they want to remain the HD leader in the future.

According to this article, http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/siliconvalley/news/6786812.htm the price of the hardware is going to be $749. That is a lot of money especially when you consider that you can get a DISH 811 for $399 from a company that has been in the business for a long time and has a proven record of delivering service.

I have to wonder how long VOOM will be around.
