Recording OTA on DVR522

Is it possible al all for me to record from my OTA antenna to my DVR? The picture is a lot better with that antenna. I would also like to stop paying the local channel fee.

No way, the 522 does not have a tuner for ota.

Is there a receiver that can do this? Could the VIP622 do this? What I am trying to do is avoid paying Dish Network for HD when I can receive it myself but I want to be able to have the features of the DVR with those channels. Thanks for your help.

The 622 can do it, but Dish charges a $7 HD enabling fee, you should be looking for a 942 and use that, it can tune ota and the dvr will work with the digital/HD signals (but not the analog) and the enabling fee would not be charged.

Do you know if the 942 has the same dvr features as the 522? Is this a dual tuner receiver like the 522 is? If I buy one my DVR Advantage should stay the same.

DVR functionality is the same. The menu interface is a bit different looking, but that's it.
Another advantage to having a 942...your storage capacity will increase.

If you can wait, the TR-50 that Echostar has coming out in the summer is a Digital OTA receiver that has a DVR. I have a ViP622, but I am going to buy one so that I can have an additional tuner to record OTA shows.

Have e-bay send seller that question, also get receiver and smart card numbers (there is a smart card number even if the receiver does not need an actual smart card, they may be built into the unit). Check with Dish Network to make sure there is no outstanding balance before you bid on it. If there is one, you have to pay it in order to get the receiver activated.

The 921 is a two tuner dvr with ota, but it only has one active output at a time (meaning if you hook it up to more than one tv, every tv has to watch the same program). I have a 921 if you are interested, IM me for info.

It sounds like I want the 942. I don't want to lose the features that I have with the 522 I have such as the TV1 and TV2. I know I won't get the wife's approval on that.

Dish will not active HD on a 942 on an account without HD. OP wants to dvr sd and ota only, he does not want any HD Package. Dish will activate for that.

No, what I am saying is Dish will not activate HD programing on a non Vip receiver. The 942 is good to go if you want sd and ota channels.

OP wants two independent tv's to view different programs at the same time. A 942 will do this, a 921 will not.
