Once again, I have a question. Below is a list of two satellites. Notice the skew. One has 6.8. The other has -35.2. I understand 6.8. How does one do a-35.2 for a skew? The reason for my question is, I can't lock onto my 61.5 satellite until I know exactly where to put my skew.

Uggrh!

Sat Name Sat Lng Az(t) Az(m) El Skew
-------------------------------------------------------------
*** Of Particular Interest ***

EchoStar 3 61.5W 127.4 117.2 24.8 -35.2
EchoStar 6 110.0W 189.4 179.3 39.5 6.8

Shouldn't need a skew for 61.5, skew is only set for dish 500's or superdish to pick up more than one sat on the same dish.

Then! Why can I pick up 61.5 with my old Voom LNB with no skew. But can't pick it up with the Dish LNBF? :(

*NOTE* The old voom LNB had no Y-shaped Sleeve to hold it. The Dish LNBF has the Y-shaped sleeve.

I go from 93 on the meter with VOOM LNB to Zip with the Dishnetwork LNBF (inserted into the Y-Sleeve which bolts to arm)

adding the sleeve to the voom dish changes the focal point of the lnb to the dish and cause the signal to go.

You'll have to stick the dish lnb into the voom dish without it and tape it / tie it somehow.

I just used electrical tape for my setup and it's still up there ;)

Or turn it 4.5 degrees to the left. I have a Dish500 with a twin pointed at 61.5 (ish) that works fine.

The negative skew is interesting. I assume the numbers are not coming from a E* program but from some other dish aiming formula designed for H/V polarized sats such as Ku/FSS birds or C band. E* doesn't use negative skews. No skew is required when receiving a single DBS satellite as they are circular polarized.

(Skew IS required with D500, D1000 and the SuperDishes to keep the multiple DBS LNBs lined up in the proper arc. The SuperDishes also need skew because 105 and 121 are H/V polarized not circular. I've skewed the D500 I have pointed at 119 and 129 so I can pick up both satellites.)

Thanks!!!

I went and removed my old voom LNB. When I shoved my DP Dual LNB into the arm. I got no signal. I then tilted the top of the DP Dual LNB backwards toward the bottom of the Dish 500 dish. I then got a faint signal. Does that mean I need to reduce my elevation or increase it?

I don't want to move it until I am sure first. The faint signal on the DP Dual LNB is the best I've had yet.

I would securely mount the LNB as close to where the VOOM LNB head was then adjust the entire dish slowly to peak the signal. Bending the LNB backwards may mean that it is too close to the dish - not just too high/too low - but DBS reception is forgiving so if you can lock it down 'unbent' start working on tilting the entire dish.

BTW: My guess is that the dish will have to go UP slightly.

Justalurker,

You were exactly correct. The elevation (according to the receiver) was to be at 25. But, that was the wrong elevation. I simply moved the elevation to around 27, and it worked.

I also think having bought a satellite finder for a little over $11 was probably the best $11 investment this year.

Thanks to all of you for your input. It all was very helpful.

I'm now receiving the 110, 119, and 61.5 satellite signals.
