I connected a Seagate HD to the Hopper USB port and the Hopper does not see it. I used this drive with my 211k receiver on my " Tail Gater " system and it worked flawlessly. It is USB powered.

When I switched from VIP722k to HWSs, my two WD EHDs worked just fine. They did not need to be reformatted.Hello olhardhead, garys from SatelliteGuys is correct.
Hard Drives are not cross platform. If it on a VIP211 or on a VIP722, they won't work from one to the next. The receiver will need to reformat the drive to work with the unit its attached to.
Reformat on my computer? How do you reformat with receiver?Your HD would need to be reformated, recordings done with a 211 cannot be viewed on a Hopper.

Now why did you have to say that?! It has worked just fine for 2 years... jus kidding got the tape outAnd if you put a pice of tape over "Seagate" and write Western Digital, it might be more reliable.

Well that didn't happen nothing happened. Didn't see it at all. When the hard drive is connected to the receiver, it should offer to format it automatically. Keep in mind, it will erase everything on the HD as it formats it.

I haven't heard of that many issues with EHDs not working when switching to Hoppers. That's awesome that it did. Typically it might not. We advise customers who may have recordings or materials that they could be lost. It prevents future frustrations .![]()
It's USB powered. I've got a couple of recordings working so haven't done reset yet. Gonna try port on the front of unit. This is an external powered hard drive? Not powered thru the USB port?

Is this only with Hopper? Works with 211k just fine. Led on drive comes on.
It won't work, as the Hopper doesn't have enough power thru the USB to make it work.
- The external hard drive must have its own power supply
Well, Dish says lots of things that are incorrect. See post above.Dish has always stated that a EHD must be self powered regardless of the receiver its attached to
