Service Required from a provider?

My parents have an old dish that uses a receiver to get channels on coordinates g4, f2 back in the early 1990s. I was wondering if we still needed to subscribe to a satellite service provider or if I can just turn it on and start receiving free to air broadcast signals.

You can get many analog wildfeeds free, though you can call any of these places for programming:
