Hi is the slim 5 dish have a switch built in to hook up more then one reciever? Reason being is i wanted to purchase another reciever and hook it up

It sure does. How many cables can you connect to it? If four, then just hook up the additional receiver. If only one, then you will need a splitter because it is the swm type lnb. You may already have the splitter in the setup.

Non-SWM SL5 has four feeds to four tuners. DVR's have two tuners. Over four you need a SWM-8 gizmo or greater. A power inserter is required.

SWM SL5s feeds eight discreet channels via one wire. Each receiver requires only one wire but a DVR will take two channels. For multiple receivers the feed from the dish must be split with an approved splitter. A power inserter is required. Over eight tuners, I imagine there is a gizmo for that.

Actually, the non-SWiM LNB is the only way you can use a SWM8.

No. You can use a SWM external switch (the SWM8 for example) if your receivers are all SWiM capable.

Why would you pay for a SWM8 (and PI) when a 6x8 is 1/3 the price?

If you wanted to diplex OTA or use DECA (these are mutually exclusive). Maybe all you really want is to get rid of the BBCs.
