Hi,

I currently have a Slimlin-3 dish and an Hr25-500 receiver. Is it possible to get these two to work together. If so, what do I need to purchase, some sort of switch
in between? If not, any recommendation? Thank you.

Do you have the SWM(single cable) Slimline-3 or the 4 cable Slimline-3?

:welcome to Satelliteguys riotbob!

The H25 requires a SWM type lnb. If there are four connections on the lnb then you have the wrong one. You will also need a power inserter.

How can I tell which is which? I see two coaxial cable coming out of the dish into a "3x4 multi-switch" adapter
of some sort. Actually, one coaxial cable goes into that adapter I mentioned and the other cable connects
directly to my receiver.

Ah, there's your problem! You can't use a 3x4 switch with an hd setup and with two cables coming from the dish, that means it's not a SWM type lnb. You need to remove the switch, get a SWM lnb and a power inserter. It goes inline between the lnb and the receiver.

any recommendations on what I should buy? I saw some where that mentions this:
[h=1]Directv SWM8 Single Wire Multiswitch Switch with Power Inserter 29V Supply PI29-Z Kit [/h]From Amazon, would this work?

The 29 volt model is for the SWM8 multiswitch. You want the 21 volt model used when there is no multiswitch.

This is what you need DirecTV SWM SL3S 3 Sat LNB - SWM DECA MRV Green Label - DirecTV Receivers HR24 HR23 HR22 HR21 HR20 H24 H23 H22 H21 H20 R22 R16 D12 - DirecTV Satellites 99 /101 / 103 . If you only have the H25,you do not need to use the splitter that would come with this. You'd just run the single cable from the dish to where your H25 is & place the power inserter after the coaxial cable & before the satellite input of the H25(you'll need a coaxial cable extension to connect the power inserter to your H25). Now,you just have the H25 HD receiver right,no DVR(doesn't make any difference, just curious what type of receiver you have since there is no such beast as a HR25-500,only a H25-500)?

Sorry, you care correct. It's a H25-500 receiver. From the link you provided, I guess these lnb heads are interchangeable....somewhat standard? So, it shouldn't be too much of a problem swapping lnb heads?
And, I'll just need to have the power inserter to be between the dish and the receiver, right? I also notice
that the lnb head provided by the link above does not list the h25-500 as one of the compatible receiver,
would that be an issue? By the way, I really appreciate you guys responding to me.

This will work for the H25-500(if you noticed, they also didn't mention the new HR34 HMC,but it works for that also). Just unscrew the 2 screws holding the LNB in place on the dish arm & disconnect the coaxial cables to the old LNB. Now,you only need one coaxial cable to connect to the new LNB. Hopefully if only one cable is connected from your old LNB to your house, then it is a no brainer which coaxial cable to use. Now you attach the power inserter at the end of the coaxial cable where it says "to satellite." What you can do next is use one of the old unused coaxial cables that was attached to your old LNB to connect from your power inserter to your H25(take off the barrel connector that's at the end of the cable first, you don't need it). After that go to the menu on the H25 to settings & then Satellite & Repeat satellite set up. The new LNB is a SWM SL3. You do not need the splitter anywhere in this set up if you are only hooking up the H25.

Great. I'll do what you suggested. Appreciate all your help!

It's say says "to SWM" not "to satellite" just wanted to give you the heads up. Also, if your dish is newer it won't have screws holding the LNB on but a simple lever you flip up and then pull the LNB out

I think the little flip up thing is neat except it takes seconds for someone to steal a pole mount lnb. Pros and cons. But I am guessing there aren't many people who know how much those lnbs are. I am sure the same applies for a swm16 mounted in plain view with 2 screws.

Okay, thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind when I install it. I'll keep you guys posted.
Thanks again.
