I'm just about set to get a 722, but I wanted to make sure I did my homework... Sorry to jam different questions into one post (and they're probably FAQ even...)

I'm outside of Seattle, WA (zip 98053); I currently have a Dish500 dish to get 110 and 119. Do people in the NW usually have LOS problems upgrading to the 1000.2 (to get 129 for HD)? (my 110/119 is clearing a bank of trees, but not by a lot)

Can I get away with hooking up only optical out to my rotel receiver, or do I need to hook up the RCA cables to get non DD to work? Also, I've seen a lot of grumbling about the quality of DD optical out on the 722 -- are problems that widespread, or are these exceptions?

Thanks!

Not sure about the LOS for 129, so I will let someone else tackle that question. As for the DD Optical Output, that is how we have the sound hooked up to our system. The only issue that we have with it is we do get a little bit of sync issues (voices not lining up with the picture), but it is not every channel, so there is not much we can do about it, and doesn't seem to be all the time.

For 129 in the northwest you should have at least a 24 inch wing dish, 30 inch is better.

1000.2 does not work satisfactorily - dropouts all the time.

Thanks for the info -- i'm having a decided lack of faith in my installer -- he was completely flippant about installing a new dish ("yeah, we'll see what happens").

I just realized, though, that all this work to get HD and I won't even be able to see the Superbowl in HD!! (No HD Fox in Seattle). Any chance they will carry the superbowl anywhere on the dish in HD (other than the local FOX station?) Can I get some sort of distant HD fox?
