Hey all you directv guys out there. I'm a huge hockey fan that is trying to figure out if I should jump to directv next season for center ice. Right now I have dish and while it serves my needs, I was a pissed to see that directv's center ice schedule showed tonights sharks vs. stars game in HD. So here's my question, is the game actually in HD? If so what feed was it (stars? sharks? tsn?). For the second half of the season I kept a log of center ice HD games comparing dish and directv and noticed that at times directv showed games as being HD even though the game was not in HD. For example there was a Kings vs. Ducks game that was listed as being in HD even though I knew for a fact that it was not (i'm assuming that it was just the SD feed being shown on the HD channel).

Thanks in advance!

I believe that game is on Versus, YES it is in HD :D

Just to clarify, I'm talking about tonights game, which was not Versus. The game was only available on center ice. Tomorrows game (4/30) is on versus, although it is joined in progress (and also available on center ice starting at 6pm.

I would be interested in the results of HD tally. I am very seriousily thinking of switching after my nhlci sub expires too. All buffalo games on dish on stuck in SD, even though the are broadcast in HD on MSG on both Directv and TWC.

iceturkee, was CSN-BA in HD? I'm just trying to evaluate if it is worth switching next season. Based upon nhl.com's schedule, the only HD feed of that game was on TSN. If the HD channel on directv was actually the TSN-HD feed and not an upconverted CSN-BA SD feed, then I'm definitely jumping ship for directv next year if they have the ability to show TSN or CBC HD games.

islandguy - by my tally directv had about 75% more games in HD than dish. In the actual tally it came out 100% more, but as I stated before, some of those games were just the SD feed on the HD channel. Now that dish has NESN-HD, if they actually show the HD games on center ice (instead of just local market) it will bring dish pretty close. Those 41 homes games in HD helped bring up direct's total.

I love dish's dvr and really don't want to spend the $$ for directv's hd-dvr, but not having all the playoff games in HD, combined with the fact that for some stupid reason dish only carries the NHL network in HD (so I only get it on the HD receiver), and I'm seriously thinking about a change. The main thing dish has going is its DVR and the fact that I can get KTLA.

The 722 receiver is the reason I have been holding out for Dish too. I use it's PIP function alot during the hockey season, especially on Saturday nights when buffalo is playing and toronto is on hnic. The TV2 output will give NHL Network in SD too, but you must sub to an HD pack inorder to do so.

However I won't go another season without the Buffalo games in HD. Direct and TWC both carry MSG-HD which carries the buffalo games.
