When the installers did my system, they have the antenna coming
through the same coax as the satellite. On the back of the STB, there
is a coax input for UHF. Is it possible to hook up an additional
connection to that input with a tv top set of rabbit ears to get
better reception?

No, the UHF input is for RF remote control.
