Hi, I'm new to the forum. Sorry to start off with an install rant:
EASTERN SHORE OF MARYLAND RESIDENTS:
Beware of install "Tech" named CHUCK from Datalink.
WOWSER, where do I start???
Chuckie missed my install window of 8:00 to !2:00 a.m. on Thursday,
June 10th and I called Datalink. They said Chuckie would be by after
3:00
instead. At 4:30 p.m. I called Datalink again. At 5:00 pm Chuckie
called and
said he was on his way and would be here in an hour. At 6:30 pm,
Chuckie called again and said : WHOOPS!, you need an upgraded antenna
for
locals and the office is closed.....don't worry though, I have one at
my house and
I will come tomorrow (Friday) between 7:00 and 7:30 am. OK? OK!
(?question? why wasn't upgraded antenna already in his truck for my
8:00-12:00
install???)
NEXT DAY 8:30 am Chuckie calls and says "I will be there in a half
hour" My
response was: "If you're not here in a half hour Chuck, don't come."
Chuck eventually got here and installed the dish. He installed the
box in front of
the TV instead of the back and left it on the floor. Cannot shut the
glass doors to the
TV stand. I asked him to connect box to the back of the TV since it
won't fit in the
cabinet. He says that he would have to reinstall the tuner and
indicates strongly that he doesn't
want to do it. I say OK, we will pull the box thru the cabinet and
around back ourselves.
On to the Off Air Antenna that was the whole reason for his not coming
Thursday...it is
starting to drizzle and Chuck wants to do it tomorrow--Saturday. I
make arrangements for
him to come back Monday, the 14th since we will not be home Sat.
OK?--7:00-7:30 Monday morning and WE are top priority!!! OK!
Monday at 3:00 in the afternoon, I call Datalink and ask them to send
someone other than Chuck.
They say OK and Chuck calls immediately thereafter and says he's on
his way WITH my upgraded OTA
antenna. 3 hours later I had a shiney new Winegard PR-4400 on the
roof. CBS, NBC, ABC and a
handful of MD public TV channels came in. No FOX; no WB. Chuck
pronounced that as amazing and told me that we really should not
expect any locals, really. He was right. Next morning, CBS and one
PBS channel remained. I called Datalink and asked them to send
someone to check the OTA antenna
install. Someone who was not Chuck. She said that we had a SENSAR
and why was I complaining, it is a great
antenna? She wanted to know what my color code (zone) was. How the
heck do I know???
She said she'd see and call me back. She never did.
Wednesday morning June 16th. I hit the net and learn that we surely
do not have a "Sensar" on the
roof. It is a 4 Bay, one staff PR-4400 for yellow/lt green/dk green
area; a small directional antenna. I guess this came from Chuck's
house and not from the office per the above. I find out that we are
in red/blue/violet zone; need a medium to large OTA antenna with amp
and should have had at least
the 8 Bay PR-8800.
The thing Chuck said he needed on my original install date per above
:-S
Datalink said that 8800 is what Chuck checked out from the office.
NOOOOOOOO. That is not what is on my roof!!!! I called Chuck and he
said he checked out the 8800 but only put half of it up. (SAY
WHAT???) He said that in his experience, we would not get locals any
better with both halves.
(SAY WHAAAAT???) antennaweb.org begs to differ. This guy is a
menace.
Chuckie does not have Voom. He has Directv. My guess is that our
PR-8800 that he checked out is either now on his own roof or else he
does some jobs on the side. I spent the entire day today on the phone
with
VOOM-->INSTALLS, INC.--->DATALINK trying to get a Square Shooter with
a preamp since
Datalink doesn't even carry the Sensar that the one lady thought we
have. The 4400 is really ugly and 8800 must be double ugly so I
thought I'd go ahead and get something better since they have to
change it anyway.
I got so far as getting an authorization for the SQ SHOOTER up to the
preamp part. Voom/Installs Inc. is allowing us $99.00 towards the
Square Shooter ($99.00 online) which Datalink charges 130.00 for and I
agreed to pay the difference.
I am paying totally for the preamp ($58.00 online). Why, now is there
a friggin' issue with the preamp
and Datalink when Installs Inc. alraeday said that I could have it at
my expense. I now cannot get
Datalink to schedule my SQ SHOOTER install over the preamp issue.
Anyway, BEWARE OF CHUCK and thanks for listening. : )
