I realized there was too much speculation in my initial post on this
subject, so I've checked things out in systematic fashion at home.
YES, my STB for some reason was set to 720 mode, changing it to 1080
mode in the Installation Menu has resolved the snow-when-changing-
channels issue--BUT only when the box (thru the red button) is also
set to 1080 OR 720 mode (why you would use 720, I cannot say). In
NATIVE and other modes, the snow issue arises, albeit at a lesser
degree than before when the Install Menu was set at 720.
Somehow, either thru something I did or default, the 720 mode was set
in the Installation Menu when I did the OTA scan, as the "snow"
problem was not present until I scanned for the OTA channels. VOOM
needs to study this, as they could be created problems for everyone
who has this set.
In 1080 mode, which should also be the proper setting for the STB
thru the red button (in addition to thru the Installation Menu) for
the Grand Wega (the KF60WE610, at least), the TV's wide mode gets
reported as "FULL" and cannot be changed thru the TV remote. This is
not a problem, as the display is proper on the screen (not in the
normally FULL mode, which would crop portions of the picture). The
same is true for the 720 mode, but in the 540 modes, for some reason,
you CAN adjust the zoom levels. Basically, you can't zoom in or--
more importantly use the wide-zoom mode on the non-HD OTA channels--
when using the 1080 and 720 modes on this set.
All of these statements are true for the STB Motorola Model DSR550
hooked up to the Grand Wega KF60WE610 with a DVI cable running the
6.20 version software.
Now, why the hell didn't they tell me to check this when I called
customer service?
Thanks for the help, I would certainly tip you all if I could...
