What is the best HD resolution for my tv?

On my dish hd settings it says my tv in offair module 1080i 16:9. I have a 1080p tv but there was no 1080p option but I am confused when it comes to offair and 16:9

Set the Dish receiver to 1080i and let your tv do the rest.

There is NO broadcast 1080p, only VOD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD (plus a few other obscure sources) can do 1080p.

Definitely do 1080i because as Jim5506 stated there are no broadcast channels in 1080p, and 1080i is still 1920x1080 in resolution, the TV just needs to deinterlace the signal.

Well, I know that some may disagree with me, but I would say try both 720p and 1080i. For some reason, our TV (which is 1080p) looks a lot better with 720p than 1080i.

For example, the site televisioninfo.com had this for our television:

480p

The TV didn't have many issues with 480p content. There was a 3.5% overscan, some minor moire interference, and some other very minor problems, none of which amount to much.
720p

There were even fewer issues with 720p content.
1080i

The main problem with 1080i playback is moire interference. We saw some minor false coloration and fine patterns were often replaced by entirely different patterns. Lines were also a bit blurry.

I also found on there the following for our TV:

MotionFlow: Standard
Cinemotion: Auto 1

The site did help me a lot. Therefore, I would say that it depends on the TV. However, I cannot say if your TV is reviewed on there. I hope that it helps if it is on there. If it is not on there, I would try to google or search for a review of the TV.

You make a good point. Some televisions don't have that great of deinterlacers and may very well perform better at 720p even if they are 1080p TVs. So yeah, it wouldn't hurt to just check both 720p and 1080i and compare for yourself as to which one looks better.
