Whats on Dish 1000

I currently have a Dish 500 and a 921 receiver. Although the 921 is technically still working, I'm thinking about going to a 622 because of all the problems I have with the 921 (Frequent lock ups, freezing and the ever present NOISE)

My question is by simply changing the HARDWARE and moving to that Mpeg4 compatible stuff, will I get any new channels, or do I have actually have to purchase additional programming to receive anything new???

Don't know if it matters, but I get my local channels OTA.
