I know they're trying to get away from mortgaging their young players for overpriced veterans, but this guy is in a totally different league, and he's still young. They'll do whatever they have to.

I agree that the Yankees have tended to throw good money away in the past, and those are three perfect examples, but this is a totally different situation.

This guy is one of the top two or three pitchers in the game and will be for the forseeable future. The Yankees desperately need pitching - especially a front-line starter. This would seem to be a good deal for them, and I would say that no matter what they have to give up to get him, short of A-Rod or Jeter.

I definitely see the Yankees as interested but since this is a trade not a free agent deal they have to give up something. Are they willing to part with young talent to get him? having said that he is only 28 and there are 2 years left on his current deal . while they seem to be interested in building up the farm system maybe it as always so that they could make a deal like this.

It would be interesting to know if the Tigers are actually in these talks.

Santana going to Detroit would hurt Minnesota no more than trading him to the Yankees.
He would pitch against Detroit 4 times during the year and you can be assured that he would pitch for the Yankees EVERY series that they meet during the year and potentially in the playoffs as well.

The Yankees don't have much to trade for him, they say they won't give up Hughes, Chamberlin or Kennedy.

Look out if the Angels manage to figure out a way to get him.

This will be interesting to see where he goes.
IF the Twins don't trade him, they will loose him with no one coming back next year, so they really DO need to do something, it has become obvious that they can't afford him ....
They traded Hunter and still have a good nuculous, would the Hunter money be enough to keep Santana ???
