Why Isn't This a Reality Yet?

I know this forum posted on this concept remote almost 2 years ago, but anyone know the scoop as to why it's not a reality yet? Or even discussed/shown at this year's CES? They had a working prototype that seemed to work well so would think that it wouldn't have been that much longer to make it functional. The tags in the recording and instant messaging to other devices looked really cool. The keyboard for search is much needed. Rather have that right now than a pretty info screen. ;)

Nor will we see any BT keyboard/pointing devices. Nor, for that matter, named EHDs.

Wow, so Dish customers who pay over a thousand dollars a year to them are nothing?? Yes, I know we do get service in return but our voices should be considered for their 'enhancements'. Of the people who use the search or keyboard a lot I bet the farm that an overwhelming majority WOULD want at the very least a Bluetooth keyboard capability.

Oh, but Dish can display a new home control functionality as a possible future for the Hopper (where other non-DISH items CAN interface with their devices). They could pay a college grad a couple grand to write the interface code. Bluetooth connectivity is NOT a brand new protocol. Bet most of the code they need is already written and online. I'd even take a USB keyboard interface at this point. They must have only 1 full time and 1 part time software engineer on staff if they can't fit these quick hits in their priority list.
 
Why develop a new piece of hardware, manufacture it, carry inventory, and have to distribute when you can write an app that does the same thing? DISH is adding more and more functionality to their Explorer App - and I'll bet that's where you'll see that type of innovation.

Very very simple. An extremely small percentage want the feature, an even smaller percentage will pay for the equipment, and yet a smaller percentage would pay more a month for it.

plus, most of this stuff should just be built into an app for a phone or tablet. Then there is no extra hardware for Dish to build and stock.

Why don't you 'bet the farm', invest YOUR resources and develop/market this device on your own. You surely WOULD have an overwhelming customer demand.

I'm ok with people who make suggestions to better or advance a product/service.
But, pretending that YOUR grand a year is sufficient to invest in YOUR novel improvement, and to assume that everyone who pays 'over a thousand dollars a year' is as like minded as you,
Is just plain dillusional.

Please, I welcome you to form your own startup, and BET YOUR FARM.

I should add,
If you do develop it,
and I like its ergonomics,
And the price is acceptable to me,
I MIGHT buy one from you.

I pay $130 a month and I really don't care if they spend any time on a wireless keyboard. To me it's a waste of time and resources right now. Why would I need a keyboard when I can just use my laptop, iPhone or iPad?
 
There is a big push for Search going on with Dish at the moment. In order to use it you have to use an antiquated on screen keyboard. I have an app for Roku on my iPad that allows me to use the iPad keyboard while in search there. The Roku has the same on screen keyboard as the Dish receivers. If an app became available to do the same in Dish Search mode all would be well....
 
The number pad is still the best bet for now. One #2 for A, two 2's for B, etc.
It helps that they now show * for delete and # for erase all.

Hopper search "Superman"

Nothing to type, nothing to touch just develop the hardware/software that listens for the command.
