Called the regular number. Said I was interested in upgrading my HR10-250 for MPEG4 HD DVR. Chris who sounded like he was in Bangalor, always seemed to get Boise before, said receiver and dish would be totally free. Said I could have installed Sat, which I thought was pretty quick, I'm busy on Sat so I said what's the next day. He says Sun which seemed strange to me since this is Labor Day weekend. Volunteered that there would be no additional commitment. Again strange since I'm not on a current commitment I thought the standard two years would apply but Chris said no. Mentioned that I had paid the lifetime DVR fee when it was available so I assumed there would be no DVR fee for the new receiver and he said that was correct. I never threatened to quit. When I live can get cable, DISH, or ATT uverse which I guess I could have negotiated with if necessary. Customer since the mid 90's never more than Total Choice plus and HBO. Very few PPV. Always have paid on time. Would not have changed if I had to pay but I never mentioned that during the call. Maybe I'll write DirecTV with what I was promised in case there is a change later. Thank to all of you who provide those of us with limited knowledge so much help

Just to be safe and prevent the "sticker shock" that will occur when you have to sign the 2 year lease agreement when the install is done, you may want to go ahead and CALL NOW!! Don't wait...operators are standing by! This "deal" sounds as though you got a rookie on the phones who couldn't read his script :). Most upgrading/returning D* customers are getting deals like $19 for S/H of the dish and HR20, maybe even free, but there will still be a 2 year commitment. It's in the "fine print" on the installation form, and frankly, it's not all that fine a print.

Do yourself a favor and prevent the future argument and call back and explain this deal and see what you can confirm as true, and how much of it was careless CSR. If they stand by this deal, then that's great for you!!! Good Luck!

Is this why I keep having to pay $ 199 every time I want a HR20 ?
I cannot even get them to budge on a H20 to upgrade my H10 so I can watch the new channels when they get here , for less than a $100.

Bobsacto,
I would call back and let them know that you just want to verify the deal they set up for you. If they say Yes thats it, have them put it in an email and send it to you for further reference.
More than likely the 2 year commit will start when the install happens.

I'm not sure why the big issue some have with the commitment, provided you like the service, most aren't going anywhere anyway.

If it turns out you don't like the product, there are other routes to take to get the situation straightened out.

I was merely offering a nice little caveat emptor so the OP doesn't get burned and jaded right up front. I should have included that there are many different deals getting thrown around, such as $299 with $100 programming credit, or $100 with credits, and anywhere in between. It truly can be a blind man throwing darts at a target sometimes, but if they can confirm your original order, then that is great for you.

I agree that the 2-year commitment is no big deal, especially if you get such a great deal up front.

I don't have a problem with the 2year deal esp. after being with DirecTV for over 10 yrs. I just thought it was interesting that he would mention that there would be no comittment.
