D* Killing E* now in HD

Actually it will at least $360, $200 for one HD DVR good for 1 TV. Oh, you will need more $160 for another CI:D
Just relax. It is not a big deal. Just think about it. I will take USAHD and FXHD, that is it.

FX HD in time for The Riches (I think in March) and Rescue Me would be nice.

HDNet Movies shows old movies that are in HD (and look the part). Some of these other programmers (Turner ones, like TBS and TNT especially) are slacking when they can't even get the widescreen version of a movie that is out in Widescreen on DVD.. I'd not be surprised if USAHD was the same way. I used to watch USA a lot but one can only take so much Problem Child.... :)

D* is not taking shots at fuel

it's a channel they have that has been in sd on both dish and directv

perhaps you're confused with rush?

Dish doesn't seem to have it anymore. The Wikipedia page says Unavailable on Dish and a quick look through the 100s and 200s in my guide doesn't show it either. But you are correct, Fuel is from the FOX folks according to Wikipedia.

Do you really need CartoonHD:eek:, CNNHD (Larry King in HD:eek:), or Weather channel:eek:, or FuelHD (remember had it on V*, skateboarding in HD:eek:). Not to mention comercials avere 10 min and stretching 20/7.;)

I was basing my Fuel statement (actually was phrased as a semi-question) on Minsk1's comparo. Sorry if that was in error.

Fuel was not a V* channel, it is a SD channel programmed by FOX Cable Networks and has been around since mid-2003.. If it was on VOOM as a 'cable favorites' channel, I'm not sure, but Fuel launched as a channel a few weeks before Voom launched their sat, according to the information online.

Fuel TV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It isn't on Dish anymore at all however, or Wikipedia is incorrect.. I can't find it in my guide.

You're correct, Monsters isn't spelled correctly. Probably the overseas folks that handle D*'s support also do proofreading of their marketing literature. :)

Fuel (in SD) was on V*, but it is from Fox family. It is skateboarding and these new sports type channel. I will never demand E* to put it on. When it will be space then I don't care, maybe someone will need it. I know that I will not watch it. :D
Also Fuel never was on Dish. And I fine with it

LOL!! True that be..

*shrugs* was thinking it was more a case of happy feet/giggling with glee/dancing on the table by the D* PR-staff, that created the typo.

Could be :). I've seen their latest TV ads still claiming (up to) 100 channels of HD too. I guess when in doubt they'll 'make them' by upconverting SD 24/7.

I'm still hoping someone'll clip their wings eventually about exclusives like NFL ST. My brother'd switch over to E* in a NY Minute if it weren't for ST. I think there's a lot of those kinds of customers out there.

do you read avsforums? oh boy 10 vs 9.5 is such a difference.

Once again I ask, where did the information about 4 channels per TP come from. Can you cite the specific post or poster of this info? Because my sources indicate that there are 5 h.264 channels per 38Mbit transponder, which is very close to what Dish is doing with 6 h.264 channels per 43Mbit transponder. I'm sorry to let facts get in the way of your anger at Dish.

Nice to see all the D* fanboys show up for this. Whatever. Like I said, all that matters to me is who gives the most HD content over time. For a long time, that was E*. Where were you guys then? Ya know? When you were getting your asses kicked?

So is this correct to you. Dish has 6 channel per TP at 1440x1080, Directv has 5 HD channels per TP at 1920x1080. Yes?

I have yet to find anything that shows Speed is broadcasting anything in HD until February ? Can someone find anything that says otherwise, except a Direct HD channel label ?

I can confirm the Dish numbers, but not the resolutions on the Directv channels. It has been rumored they are full resolution though.

My guess: I doubt you will see much difference between Dish and Direct's h.264 (mpeg4) channels. Although if Dish is doing one more format conversion (1920x1080 -> 1440x1080) than Direct I'd imagine the PQ would be a tad softer. I have yet to see the new Directv channels first hand, so I am going on the PQ reports of others, which seem to indicate the new channels are much better than the old directv mpeg2 channels.

My dad was all excited about maybe switching to D* over the new HD channels until I told him no free HD DVR and they would have to have 2 dishes.

Speed HD has the potential to be awesome.
so why lie to your own father? It's pretty easy to get a free dvr, i got 2, and I have never had 2 dishes since day one and I have been here with D* 7 years now.

Why do people keep arguing about resolution numbers. The average person can't tell the difference between the two anyway at a certain viewing distance and most people have 720p displays anyway. A lower resolution picture with a high bitrate can look pretty damn good and I would challenge anyone to see a noticeable difference.

I think the 4 hd channel per transponder speculation came from specification of the 'Harmonic's DiviCom Electra 7000 Encoder provides up to four channels of superior quality constant bit rate (CBR) or variable bit rate (VBR) MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video'. Also I think Scott wrote he has a channel transponder list of DirecTV 10

Pretty sure the Electra 7000 is just the rack mount configuration of the encorder and it does not include the multiplexers. All I've read so far is that 7Mbps for HD MPEG-4 AVC is optimal and any higher bite rate would be over kill.
